The Polish truck crew is making a large deal at Dakar Classic. Tomasz Białkowski, Dariusz Baśkiewicz and Adam Grodzki compete in Saudi Arabia with the legendary DAF 3300 loaned from the museum in Eindhoven – a model that won the Dakar Rally in the 1980s.
After 7 stages, Poles are eighth in the general classification and the best among trucks, and they have signed up in history, winning 1 of the stages as the first truck in Dakar classical history.
Although Białkowski and Baśkiewicz have experience in field racing, starting with a truck is fresh to them. Grodzki, a passion for historical vehicles and the owner of an awesome collection of trucks, was the spiritus moves of the full task – he enthusiastically tells about “grandmother” as he calls the car.
The DAF of the Polish crew was the only truck to run all over the dunes erstwhile others avoided them. Although the vehicle needs peculiar attention, it works well – the Polish squad hopes that it will stay so until the finish.
