Poland, together with Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, decided to retreat from the Ottawa Convention prohibiting the usage of anti-personnel mines. The government argues for this step on safety grounds, but this decision has sparked controversy and divided politicians. The opposition, including the Left, powerfully criticises the coalition's actions, pointing to possible global consequences.
