On Wednesday 25 June, during the ongoing two-day NATO summit in The Hague, president Andrzej Duda was asked by journalists about tensions around ambassadorial nominations and possible gathering with the head of the MFA Radosław Sikorski on this issue.
On the same day, as RMF FM reported, president Margaret Paprock's chief Chancellery confirmed that papers from the Ministry of abroad Affairs concerning the dismissal of 3 ambassadors: Jakub Kumoch (China), Adam Kwiatkowski (Watykan) and Paweł Soloch (Romania) were received in the Presidential Palace.
Duda in strong words struck Sikorski
All 3 of them were in the past associated with the President's Chancellery, and Soloch additionally with the National safety Office. In her conversation with the media, Paprocka said that "documents were received in the Chancellery of the President, informing about the intention of Mr.Sikorski" and added that it was "the phase of the alleged abroad affairs convention erstwhile the decision was made".
– It is hard to imagine that the President's decision and position on this substance is different from that of the negative. And it's not that they're erstwhile co-workers of the president's office, it's how they do their duties," she said.
For this, Duda spared no strong words to the head of the MFA. I request to talk to Minister Sikorski. Recently, he changed his head about our findings in a unusual way," he told journalists. As he added, "it's a bit of an uproar."
In addition to president Duda and Minister Sikorski, we should remind you that Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz is besides present in the Hague.
As we wrote in naTemat.pl, the conflict between the president and the MFA on ambassadors has been increasing since March 2024. At the time, Minister Sikorski announced the completion of the mission of over 50 ambassadors and withdrew respective candidatures submitted by the erstwhile management of the ministry.
In response, Andrzej Duda announced that no Polish ambassador would be called or cancelled without his signature. The deficiency of agreement made the president refuse to nominate successors to the cancelled ambassadors.
As a result, any of the facilities were without formal ambassadors, and the MFA sent diplomats in the rank of chargé d'affaires, i.e. temporary heads of mission, who do not have the ambassador's mandate, due to the fact that they were not formally approved by the President.
This is the case in the USA, where Bogdan Klich replaced Marek Magierowski. Duda has repeatedly stressed that he does not consider Klich to be a suitable candidate for the post of Ambassador to Washington.
