President PZL Mielec Janusz Zakrocki announced that in the Polish mill he would produce between 70 and 80 percent of the hull structure to F-16. This is another step towards the improvement of the Polish aviation industry.
The current year is very fruitful for the Polish Aviation Plant Mielec, owned by the American company Lockheed Martin, maker of aircraft specified as F-16, C-130 Hercules, or F-35. These included upgrading and surface preparation and launching of the production line. any of PZL Mielec's employees were trained at Lockheed Martin's main mill in Greenville, USA for six months. In addition, 12 American engineers work permanently at PZL Mielec.
Implementation and preparatory work for the production of components of the F-16 structure began in 2022. On 30 March 2023, the production of the first 2 structures for the latest version of the F-16 fighter Block 70/72 was completed in Mielec. The structure of the rear and front of the central hull of the aircraft has been completed.
On 29 August this year, the production of the first rear hull structure was completed in Mielec to the latest version of the Block 70/72 F-16 fighter. The company points out that this is simply a symbolic return to the production of military jet aircraft. Elements F-16 are created in a renovated hall, where more than 20 years ago school and combat aircraft were manufactured. The completed structure of the rear of the F-16 hull, like the another smaller components of the F-16, besides produced in PZL Mielec, will hit the Lockheed Martin final assembly line in Greenville, South Carolina, where the F-16 Block 70/72 fighters are presently manufactured for customers from Europe and the mediate East.
Production of F-16 Block 70/72 structures in PZL Mielec is run in a full modernized hall, with a full area of 14,000 square meters. Military jet aircraft have been manufactured here in the past. In an interview with the Polish Press Agency Janusz Zakrecki stated that PZL Mielec would produce between 70 and 80 percent of the F-16 hull structure. The company intends to implement the plan by the end of next year. It is presently about 50 percent of the hull structures for fighters.
