
Already half a million signatures have been collected under the citizens' initiative of the referendum "Stop illegal immigration", supported by the Law and Justice", said Jarosław Kaczyński, president of the party. According to a fresh survey, as many as 70 percent of the respondents declared to participate in the referendum on immigration, of which more than 50 percent were "decisive". Only 14 percent of respondents said that they would stay in their homes. In the case of a referendum on this issue, attendance would be crucial, as the last – where migration was besides asked – was considered non-binding due to the low interest of citizens.
According to a survey by SW investigation for the "Republic" agency, if the initiative to call a referendum on migration, more than 70% of citizens would go to polling stations. 50.4% of respondents declared to be "agree" to take part in the referendum, and 23.5% "more" would indicate the consequence to the referendum card.
The opponents of specified a solution are in a large number - the "agreement" of the referendum would not have taken part in 7.4% of the respondents, and 6.5% of the respondents would have stayed at home on the day of the vote. 12.3 percent of the respondents did not express an opinion on this issue.
Let us remind that the issue of migration in terms of the problem of illegal immigration has already been addressed in 1 of the referendums. It is an initiative held in parallel with the 2023 parliamentary elections. Although attendance was very advanced at the time, many people refused to take referendum cards due to the plan of questions for which the then Law and Justice Government was responsible.
Poles were asked: “Do you support the admission of thousands of illegal immigrants from the mediate East and Africa in accordance with the forced relocation mechanics imposed by European bureaucracy?”
As many as 97 percent of the voters indicated the "no" response, but there were besides fewer of them. The consequence was non-binding, as attendance did not exceed the required 50% (voted 40.91 percent of the eligible).
The Law and Justice Office intends to re-submit this issue in a referendum, but this time it is simply a citizens' initiative. Half a million citizens have signed up to the proposal on this matter, said PiS president Jarosław Kaczyński.
The survey was conducted on 8-9 July on a group of 800 net users over the age of 18.
