Media, politicians and kiboles – what the pop culture mix with politics looks like today

In the latest episode of the show From Political Bottom Piotr Nowak and Piotr Szumlewicz are looking at phenomena which, in their opinion, best image the degrengolade of contemporary Polish politics: from Krzysztof Stanowski's interview with president Karol Nawrocki, through the progressive radicalization of the utmost right, to the grotesque behaviour of Pogoni Szczecin fans. Their diagnosis is clear: Polish public life got stuck in the festival of populism, complexes and brutality.

Stanowski versus Nawrocks. A hard conversation that never happened
Journalist Krzysztof Stanowski is celebrated for his aggressive style, sharp language and massacre of weaker adversaries. However, as the talker notes, his claw “disappeared” in an interview with president Karol Nawrocki, and the interview turned into an act of political kiss-up. The most curiosity part? The question is who would win the fight – Nawrocki or Minister Żurek. The president replied with half-life, half-life, that “it has more crucial things than wondering how rapidly it would turn out the light to Żurk.”
According to the interviewers, he is compromising both the writer and the office of the President. In addition, Stanowski – present 1 of the most influential commentators on the net – is to be a fresh "Michnik" for many young audiences, this time on the right hand, which the authors of the program bloom with irony: “What Times, specified Michnik”.

The radicalisation of the Confederation: fromBerkafter Braun
Another protagonist of the conversation is Konrad Berkowicz, who described the flag of the European Union as “a symbol of oppression and submission.” Meanwhile, for Szumlewicz and Nowak, the Union is the foundation of safety and prosperity – “the best thing that has happened to Poland”. So why does a part of the right see an enemy in it? The leaders here fishy either utmost populism or influences of Russian misinformation.
However, a much more serious problem is Grzegorz Braunwho is facing up to 5 years in prison for many crimes – from the extinguishing of Khanu candles to aggression against a doctor. According to commentators, a harsh conviction could weaken the “bandy-pro-Russian” movement that Braun created. At the same time, they warn: the fact that his anti-EU communicative gained popularity shows the worrying susceptibility of Poles to radicalization.

The program has many places devoted to changing US policies under Donald Trump. The fresh National safety strategy of the United States aimed at isolationism and “resignation” of Europe is the biggest threat to Poland since the collapse of the USSR, according to the leaders. However, part of the Polish right inactive blindly believes in the Washington leader.
Politicians specified as Czarnek, Matecki or Nawrocki – delighted with Trump – ignore the fact that the US can retreat from Europe. At the same time, they argue the deepening of European integration, which could become a fresh safety guarantee.
This – according to Szumlewicz and Nowak – a destructive mix of naivety and incompetenceleading Poland towards geopolitical emptiness.
Pobice Pogoni Szczecin and “a ban on hitting on women”. The absurd apogee
Finally, the leaders discuss a viral episode from Szczecin: after the defeat Pogoni, the fans were to endanger footballers and forbid them... to "pick up puppies" until the squad started winning. Their rhetoric sounded like a "ownership" manifesto – as if women in the city were the common good of ultras.
Commentators gag that it is simply a "fascist school of training" in which sports motivation results from regulating the private life of players.
Diagnosis: Polish public debate needs reset
The conversation shows 1 grim conclusion: Polish politics present are governed by emotions, aggression and complexes, not rational conversation. From political influencers to the far right and stadium stands – brutality and populism displace integrity and responsibility.
The leaders call for a return to a serious discussion about the European Union, alliances and safety – before Poland becomes a hostage to its own illusions.
