Security, military cooperation, the fight against illegal migration and the protection of the external border of the European Union – these are the topics I peculiarly care about – said Prime Minister Donald Tusk after gathering with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. He announced that Poland and Germany will cooperate, among others, on the creation of a European Air Shield.
On Tuesday, the first Polish-German intergovernmental consultation was held in Warsaw since 2018. This morning there were bilateral talks between Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Chancellor Olaf Scholz. The delegations of both countries then met, and the plenary session later began.
– I am pleased that we could meet in this awesome political format, which is the intergovernmental consultation. There was something to discuss – said Prime Minister Donald Tusk during a press conference with Olaf Scholz. – Our intention was to give fresh impetus to Polish-German relations. In these times no 1 should have any uncertainty that Cooperation between our countries is highly important He explained.
The Head of the Polish Government stressed that Safety is simply a precedence for him.. – The full Europe, including Germany, but Poland in particular, is exposed to certain risks arising from geography and that we have borders with Russia, Belarus and the fighting Ukraine. This creates a very serious and unprecedented problems for the Polish state – said Donald Tusk. He mentioned that there is besides an increased hazard of diversion and sabotage attacks in Poland. – Widely understood security, military cooperation and cooperation on illegal migration, Working together on a safe external border of the European Union – these are the topics I peculiarly care about – he argued. The Prime Minister pointed out that Germany is ready to take joint work for the tightness of the EU border. – Our task called The east Shield to strengthen EU borders. It is in the interests of the German State that this border should be protected very effectively and for Europe to be safe in the event of aggression from the east," explained Tusk. He acknowledged that this requires not only coordinated action to combat illegal migration, but besides defence. “Our participation in the already existing European Air Defence Initiative should facilitate the construction of the European Air Shield, a dome guaranteeing a safe sky,” added Tusk.

Olaf Scholz, Chancellor of Germany, pointed out that both countries are good neighbours, close partners and reliable friends. He talked about "new dynamics" on cooperation in many areas. “Today we have adopted a Polish-German action plan and this gives us a full scope of topics and projects that we will work on together in the following years, for the benefit of our countries, for the sake of peace and safety in Europe”, said Scholz. "The close partnership between Berlin and Warsaw is very crucial to us. Germany wants a strong voice of Poland in Europe," said the Chancellor. He added that "safe Poland is besides safe Germany". – We will support safety and defence activities. We want to be a leader in the Baltic region within NATO and defend the Alliance's east flank – convinced Scholz. He reminded that Poland and Germany – among European countries – transmit the top support of the fighting Ukraine. He declared that Kiev could number on even more assistance and support for the pursuit of EU membership.
Chancellor Scholz besides referred to the hard past of both nations. He mentioned coming 80th Anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising and the 85th anniversary of the German assault on Poland. – We Germans, during planet War II, have caused Poland an unprecedented suffering, we are aware of our guilt and work for millions of victims. so Germany will effort to support the survivors of the occupation," he assured. The German Chancellor informed among others about the establishment of a place in Berlin to commemorate Polish victims of planet War II and Nazi occupation.
During the Polish-German consultations, a gathering of Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamisha and German Minister of Defence Boris Pistorius was besides held. The talks concerned, among others, bilateral relations on defence, safety of the European Union and the North Atlantic Pact and the July NATO summit in Washington. Ministers besides discussed border protection issues.
