The future head of the U.S. facility in Poland expressed his opinion at least inappropriately. Thomas Rose, if he wanted to express his discontent with Washington over the draft tax, he could do so, as in rule is done in diplomacy, or behind the scenes. Alternatively, he could "show hope that Poland, while working on the fresh taxation project, would take into account traditionally friendly relations between our countries", i.e. to talk publicly, but besides diplomatically.
The outrage with the kind of communication of the future ambassador is understandable, because, in fact, Rose, not even coming to Poland, allows herself to behave rudely towards our country. The point is not to exaggerate the above.
Blackmail will be the norm.
Polish public opinion and Polish politicians should remember that Americans, knowing the importance of the presence of US troops in Poland for our security, will effort to make our country a Trojan horse in Europe.
For the Trump administration, broken, and optimally even quarreled, Europe is, of course, an easier partner than a united Europe. Poland will, of course, should be betting on the US in any cases, as long as we can number on the American military presence in our country. In others, however, we will gotta play Europe alternatively than Washington. The issue of the taxation of technology companies is just specified a matter.
The point is that the Americans will most likely blackmail us in a brutal way, not in selected cases, but in any way in which their interests are contrary to European interests. In order to avoid specified blackmail, it is worth avoiding where our paths will spread with America, being rhetorically invariably pro-American, and actually doing theirs. Each case will besides require an analysis of whether US blackmail is simply a bluff or a collision course against the US is actually in danger. specified analysis is not possible, however, erstwhile opposition – as politicians of the Law and Justice (with the noble exception of MP Marcin Przycz) – de facto takes sides with a abroad state.
In order to somewhat dull the American tendency to arrogance, Poland must guarantee that certain basic standards are respected by American diplomacy and by representatives of American technological corporations.
Embassy arrogance
The mystery of the polysinnel is the sharogizing of any American diplomats who have been utilized for years to treat Polish offices and officials in advance. The demeanor of Polish politicians, who take even the average rank of American diplomats from hand to hand, who should not even take their subordinates, but the subordinates of their subordinates, is not something that can be done with a firm statement. A practice of action is needed to bring the U.S. embassy to the level of contacts that UK, France, Germany and China use.
It is clear that the US Ambassador will only theoretically be equal to the ambassador of any respectable, but secondary from the point of view of the interests of the Polish State, the African State or the Asian State, but there is no reason for the US Ambassador to treat, as happened only a fewer months ago, the head of diplomacy or even the president as his working level of contacts.
The working level of the ambassador's contacts is, in principle, the Deputy manager or manager of the Department of the Ministry of abroad Affairs. It can be considered that in the case of key countries this level is raised to the Deputy Minister, but there is no reason for this to mean that any councillor from the US embassy enters the Polish MFA as a third-rate office.
An Honorable Invitation
In order to bring Americans to the right level, it is besides essential to change the approach not only of officials, but besides of any media, opinion-making and celebrity groups who treat the invitation to the U.S. embassy as something even nostalgic and boast about it, as without trying on, a private audience with the British king.
Unfortunately, any of her Polish workers are besides in relations with the American embassy, who behave with a shoe that the Americans themselves avoid.
In relations with large Tech, the problem is the ease and low price that these companies gotta pay, so that their representatives will bridle during various conferences, discussion panels and events. Inappropriate are situations where secondary, frequently with small to say representatives of specified companies appear in panels on the same level as prime ministers, or abroad or defence ministers.
American competitors, like those from another countries, will, of course, stay sponsors of various types of events. It would be good, however, for them to put a small effort into PR and for event organizers to remember that self-respect usually makes them gain more, not less.
