Poland's first step in relation to the EU exit clause

According to the Ministry of Finance, Poland has decided to accept the European Commission's proposal to launch a national escape clause (NEC) due to exceptional circumstances arising from Russian aggression against Ukraine and its challenges to European security. This clause allows to depart from the Ecofin Council's recommended way of public spending, up to the amount corresponding to the increase in defence spending in relation to the pre-war situation in Ukraine. According to estimates, the increase in defence expenditure in Poland according to the EU definition of COFOG will be 1.1% and 1.3% of GDP, respectively, compared to 2021.
