A reader of the independent portal Medusa described the control on the Russian border, which in the autumn of 2024 lasted 11 hours. Officers checked travellers, phones and computers, and questions included wars and contacts in Ukraine. Reports collected on 17 August 2026 show the price of the journey to the police control state.
Eleven hours without knowing what's next.
The independent portal Medusa collected accounts of readers who traveled to Russia or left Russia after the Russian invasion. 1 of the described persons waited in the fall of 2024 for completion of the inspection for 11 hours. Her computer remained with her wife, who had the chance to remove the telephone calls and payment records that could exposure others to criminal proceedings.
The author of the account called this time the scariest 11 hours of his life. He did not describe the charges or the formal decision of the authorities. The specified expectation, the deficiency of information, and the awareness that private messages could be utilized against individual in Russia was adequate to make fear.

Other interlocutors mentioned questions about the attitude to war, Vladimir Putin, contacts in Ukraine or social media activity. 1 of the travelers described that the officers had recorded the IMEI number of his telephone and demanded the signing of a polygraph test in the future. According to his account, refusal was to mean a further 3 hours of waiting and failure of flight.
