In 2025, Moldova's abroad public debt continued to grow and by the end of November reached $4.68 billion, compared with $4.19 billion at the beginning of the year.
According to the Ministry of Finance data, in the first 11 months the balance of abroad debt increased by about $493 million, which means an increase of about 11.7%.
The increase in debt was the consequence of both borrowing fresh loans and exchange rate changes. Between January and November 2025, the inflow of abroad financing was $631.2 million, while the repayment of abroad debt was $440.9 million. As a result, the net balance of abroad financing was affirmative and amounted to $190.3 million.
At the same time, the costs of handling abroad public debt, including interest and commissions paid, reached $98.9 million in the first 11 months of 2025, which is simply a level akin to the same period of 2024.
