On 13 January, 1 of the large Polish nationalists was buried in Poznań. General Jan Podhorski was a soldier of the NSZ, a Warsaw insurgent, activist of the All-Polish Youth and scouts.

Who was General Jan Podhorski?

The future general came from a patriotic family, his father Maximilian Diering (the name Podhorski was accepted by his boy Jan during the conspiracy) took part in the Wielkopolska Uprising, and in 1926 he defended legally elected authorities before the Piłsudski Regiment. He participated in the Warsaw Uprising, he was the commander of 1 of the assault groups active in the capture of the Police Command and the Church of the Holy Cross. After the uprising ended, he was imprisoned in a prisoner of war camp, got free after the Soviets entered.

After the war, he participated in an effort to reactivate the All-Polish Youth, as an omnipolak he dealt with military affairs in the organization. He initiated a student strike in Poznań. In 1946, he was arrested for active in the MW. The punishment for national activity was 7 years imprisonment, yet thanks to amnesty he left after 3 years.

By the end of the period of communism, he was watched by security. After the fall of the commune, he joined the activities of the Kombatant groups, among others, he was president of the Chief Council of the Union of National Armed Forces Soldiers. He maintained contacts with younger colleagues from the All-Polish Youth, who participated in his birthday all year, especially solemn were the centenary birthday in 2021, on which the general wished to see a 100 omnipolacs.
