Postcard from South Africa

I late visited South Africa, where the BRICS Group summit took place in August that year. Although this alliance consisting of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa has been in operation for over a decade, it is now tightening up in the face of events in the planet of the Russian-Ukrainian War (or the silent American-Chinese War), declaring not only economical but besides military support. The group is besides getting closer to finalising the monetary pact, creating something like its own platform to handle financial operations akin to Swift, or its own currency of BRICS based entirely on gold.

I remembered this summit as shortly as I got to Johannesburg. In many places of the city, you could see the BRICS logo, and the airport was virtually wallpapered. The walls covered statistic on the strength of the group as a whole, intertwined with quotes from Nelson Mandela talking about the request for change and a fresh beginning. The erstwhile president of South Africa most likely referred to the issue of Apartheid in these words, while the current communist, coalition government is not afraid to usage these slogans to lead a fresh chapter in the fight against white imperialism - which embodies the West - with which BRICS competes.

It is not amazing - South Africa is 1 of the richest countries in the planet on gold and diamonds, but more than half of the population live on the poorness line (as you can see at all turn) and it is not a white population to which most of the land and natural resources of the country belong. Therefore, the leaders of the ruling parties trust heavy on the aid of BRICS, mainly to aid Russia and China take control of industry, deposits and land. So much for the plans of this African country, however, the summit itself is more important, as well as what happens after it is finished. If we look further, it seems that the group's actions are becoming increasingly popular in the world, I would say that there is an thought coming up, which is most likely feared by Western politicians. After all, the thought cannot be fought effectively, it is hard to force or intimidate it. It is besides not easy to outbid it on money, especially on the dollars that give emergence to negative associations in the countries that belong to and aspire to BRICS, as a symbol and inactive a guarantor of the United States' hegemony over the remainder of the world. For these countries, Russia - which may surprise us here in Europe - is not the embodiment of evil, it is just another ally, a market, a supplier of natural materials, a chance for development, and its local conflict with Ukraine is of interest to their governments as much as the Polish war in Sudan. So panic of Russia may have an effect in a politically correct Europe or in the United States, but nowhere else in the world.

In order to confirm the above, the declaration of joining the group was made in Johannesburg in August, and since January 2024, among others, by arabian countries specified as Iran, Saudi Arabia or the United arabian Emirates, and the waiting list is increasing. There has been no specified thing for a long time, there is simply a choice of teams, announcing the start of the game, a violent game that can powerfully disrupt the balance in the world, and if there is no war on a wider scale in the close future, it will be possible to talk about success. The events of the past months or weeks - I am talking about the military coup in Gabon or the Hamas attack on Israel only confirm - the first moves have been made and this does not bring good news.

What does this gotta do with Poland? Well, if we don't want to be between the hammer and the hardwood in this eternal Western dispute with the East, and as usual we let ourselves control 1 side or the other, alternatively of utilizing our geopolitical position for our own purposes (not only in defence or commerce, but in worldview, education, religion, ecology, immigration, etc.). I listened to an American writer last night, who tried to inform us in blunt terms, "Polsko chose the incorrect side, we Americans don't care about you and we'll abandon you as shortly as we have done your business with your hands" (and he said that with large conviction and concern for our country, although there will be voices that he was a Communist and an agent of the Kremlin). I will not say that we have chosen the incorrect side (economically, EU membership serves us, although we bear any of the costs that will be estimated only by future generations) but I ask if it is in our interest to choose any party? Our weakness is evidenced by the fact that our interior and abroad policies are geared under our economical or military allies, not under us. Our commitment to the conflict in Ukraine is simply a large example of what only the United States is gaining. However, we are not only hostile to Russia, but besides to Germany (our biggest neighbours and crucial economical partners) and we are absolutely being utilized by the Ukrainian authorities, in the function of a defender whom we have decided to act naively.

From the point of view of our safety from the beginning, I thought that as long as possible we should take a neutral, arbitrary position, not make a Western gardener's dog against unpredictable Russia, due to the fact that erstwhile the planet yet catches fire to a fresh war, we will be the first to get hit for its infantile abroad policy based on emotion alternatively than cold calculation. Unfortunately, I am not convinced that Polish politicians are capable of specified reflection, although this gathering present may prove a certain degree of distrust about our commitmenttheir allies in military aid to Poland in the event of a conflict with Russia (assuming even that allies will decision with help, what will it substance if bombs start falling on Poland, turning Polish houses into ruins?).

I do not want to be a bad prophet, like my noble namesake, who warned against planet War II and urged to choose the right side (if individual did not read I urge - https://we like to read.pl/Xiazka/4860727/against the incoming-second-world war). Personally, I am not calling for the choice of any party, to leave the Union, to NATO or to fraternize with Russia, but to draw conclusions from past and to make restrained decisions, utilizing cynically – as large players do – all condition to settle its interests, while not giving up its sovereignty. Our position has always been difficult, but 80 years ago we were weak adequate that choosing 1 of the parties had its reasons (then - mainly thanks to propaganda - we did not think of an alliance with Germany, as present we do not think of standing on the side of Russia). But present we are stronger (we would like to say smarter) and in this situation the only side we should choose should be our side and our peculiar interest. Not the interests of Ukraine, Germany, Russia or the United States, but the interests of Poland.
