More than 9 km had to sail in the Baltic to attend the memorial organized on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Formoz Military Unit. The challenge was attended by representatives of uniformed services and civilians. “The participants did not fight among themselves, but with themselves and with the cold waves of the Baltic”, says kmdr Jan Kwiatkowski, commander of JW Formoza.

More than 50 people appeared, including uniformed service representatives and civilians selected after preliminary selection. The condition for admission to the accrual was not only the accomplishment of swimming in open waters or cold conditions, but besides the appropriate justification for its incentive to take off.

Participants were to swim 50 cables, or 5 Mm (9260 m) in the open waters of the Baltic - from Formozy to the old torpedo station on Babich Doła and back, in neoprene foam, fins, with mask and tube. any players decided on the second variant of the challenge, i.e. 2.5 Mm inflows and return on the beach in full uniform and with a backpack.

- I'm sorry. The participants did not fight among themselves, but with themselves and with the cold waves of the Baltic," emphasised Mr. He adds that not only physical strength was crucial during the challenge, but first of all it was determination, willpower and perseverance.

The joint start preceded the jump to the water from the tower, the same 1 from which all candidates jump to operators as part of the first selection for JW Formoz. The water in the Gulf of Gdańsk that day had a temperature of about 14°C, and the competitions were secured by many boats and rescuers on jet skis.

However, not all participants managed to scope their destination. Later, strong wind and advanced waves at sea prevented the return of the tides, so the organizers decided to close the challenge earlier and safely transport the participants to land.

Prior to noon, the Marine Search and Rescue Service received a missing study from 1 of the swimmers. The service began searching, among others, utilizing a chopper and a rescue ship. It turned out that a man with his own strength sailed to shore and was found safe on the beach around 15.00 p.m.

At the end of the memorial, everyone, regardless of their distance, met at a common campfire. The good moods added and in the conversations there was satisfaction with participation in a unique event. “The aim of the memorial is besides to integrate the civilian environment into the military environment, and in peculiar with its circumstantial group of peculiar troops,” said kmdr Kwiatkowski, who congratulated and thanked all participants for their desire to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Formosa together.

Marine commandos from Formozy have functioned as a stand-alone military unit since 2007, but their roots go much further. It all started in November 1975 with the establishment of the Division of peculiar Activities of the 3 Fleet Ships. From 1990 to 2007, the sub-chapter was within the structure of the Hydragraphic Ship Group, followed by the 3FO Reconnaissance Ship Group. The name Military Unit Formoza has been in effect officially since 2011. Since 2023 1 of Formozy combat teams are stationed in Dziwnow (Western Pomeranian War).
