The plague of invasive hornets in Europe. Service has removed more than 205 1000 sockets

The invasion of Asian hornets is increasingly affecting the Portuguese. Since the emergence of the species in the country in 2011, civilian protection services have already intervened at more than 205 1000 nests.

The yellow-legged hornet, as well as defining this species, is peculiarly heavy established in central and northern Portugal. Worse still, the insect is aggressive, and its sting can lead to a severe allergic reaction. According to the Portuguese institutions, each year at least 2 deaths associated with the attacks of these insects are recorded in the country. The last fatal incidental occurred in early September

Biologists emphasize that the actual scale of the problem may be even greater, since any residents effort to remove tiny nests themselves.

Hornet naturally occurs in China and India, among others. It was expected to scope Europe before 2004 most likely along with shipping from China to French Bordeaux – since then the species has spread rapidly across the continent's successive countries.
