Bliss of arrogance
On Monday, the head of Parliamentary Law and Justice Club Mariusz Błaszczak informed that the group would apply for the cancellation of Minister of Agriculture Stefan Krajewski from the PSL. According to the Law and Justice policy, the agreement with the Mercosur countries will lead to a flooding of the marketplace with inexpensive food from outside the European Union, produced without strict standards to be met by Polish farmers. Blaszczak wrote on the X portal:
Instead of powerfully defending the interests of the Polish village, Minister Krajewski shows arrogance and disregard for the voice of farmers. Polish village needs defence, not inactivity.

The EU countries approved a trade agreement with Mercosur countries on Friday. Despite the opposition of Poland, France, Ireland, Hungary and Austria, the alleged blocking number has not been established, and Italy's support has proved decisive for the adoption of the agreement. A reinforced version of the safeguard clause was besides adopted on the same day. This mechanics allows the temporary suspension of customs preferences for Mercosur producers in the event of a fall in the prices of delicate products on the Union marketplace or a abrupt increase in their imports.
The agreement, which raises objections from European farmers, provides for customs preferences for selected agricultural products, including those considered sensitive, specified as beef, poultry, dairy, sugar and ethanol. In return, Mercosur countries are expected to open their markets to EU industrial goods, including cars, machines and medicines.
Italy's support was crucial to obtaining consent. The paper is to be signed on 17 January and the president of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen will go to Paraguay for this purpose. The European Commission’s spokesperson confirmed this information.
