At the age of 76, Piotr Nowin-Konopka died. He was a democratic opposition activist in the Polish People's Republic, advisor to president Lech Walesa, a longtime MP and erstwhile Polish ambassador to the Vatican. Piotr Nowina-Konopka was born on 27 May 1949 in Chorzów. He was a postgraduate of the University of Gdańsk. In 1978, he received a degree Doctor of economical Sciences. He was associated with the university until 1989. In the 1980s, he was heavy active in the movement of the democratic opposition. He collaborated with the Centre for Social and Professional Work of the NSZZ "Solidarity", and after the introduction of martial law supported the chairman Lech Walesa as a spokesman, translator and advisor. He was a associate of the Civic Committee and served as spokesperson for Lech Walesa at the circular Table.

From 1989 to 1990 was a typical of Solidarity, Minister of State at the Chancellery of president Wojciech Jaruzelski. In this capacity he mediated relations between the president and the Prime Minister Tadeusz Mazowiecki, president of the Civic Parliamentary Club Bronisław Geremek, president of the NSZZ “Solidarity” Lech Wałęsa, as well as Primate Joseph Glemp on the another hand.
Since 1991, he has been a three-time associate of the Radom Land for the Democratic Union and then the Freedom Union. For 10 years he sat on the Parliamentary Committee on abroad Affairs (1991-2001), besides chaired the European Integration Commission, and led the Parliamentary Committee of the Common Republic and the EU created from scratch. In 1991, he was 1 of the initiators of the Polish Robert Schuman Foundation, promoting European integration. From 1996 he was a member, then from 1999 to 2003 vice-president of the Euroatlantic Association. From 1998 to 1999, he worked as deputy chief negotiator of the Republic of Poland on EU membership – Minister Jan Kułakowski.

From 1999 to 2004, Piotr Nowina-Konopka was Vice president of the College of Europe. He then advised Georgia national parliament as the main global expert of the EU's advisory programme for the Georgian Parliament (2005-2006), and in 2006 won the competition for the position of manager for Relations with National Parliaments in the European Parliament. He was the first Pole to execute specified a advanced function. After 3 years, in 2009, he was transferred by decision of the talker of Parliament and Secretary-General to Washington, with a mission to make and direct the permanent office of the European Parliament at the United States legislature (European Parliament Liaison Office with US Congress). He held this function until October 2012.
In 2013, the President Bronisław Komorowski and Minister Radosław Sikorski presented Piotr Nowin-Konopce appointment as Ambassador of the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Poland at Holy See and the Sovereign Military Order of Malta; these offices held until mid-2016.
Piotr Nowina-Konopka was decorated with the Officer's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta, the French Chevalier de la Legion d’Honneur, Leopold II's Commander's Cross, or German Verdienskreuz I Klasse.
