First Medical Legion Training

Nearly 20 doctors, nurses and rescuers from all over Poland are undergoing an intensive five-day course combining military craftsmanship with martial medicine. The first edition of the Medical Legion training takes place at the Military Center for Medical Education in Łódź. A week's class will culminate in a military oath that opens up the career way of the military to the medics.

Medical Legion, civil, volunteer initiative to integrate resources and competences of the medical community with the needs of the Polish Army, has been operating for respective weeks. How reported a fewer days ago Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of National Defence, has already reported to him nearly a 1000 people, including about 800 medics. The Legion is an offer not only for doctors, paramedics or nurses, but besides for people outside the medical community who want to support the wellness strategy in crisis situations.

Within the Legion, 10 career paths were prepared to be chosen. The aim of 1 “Not only Hippocratic” is to enable people from the civilian medical community who were not in military service to get basic military training. Five-day training, for which about 20 doctors from all over Poland have applied, is provided by WCKMed instructors. In addition to basic military training, students participate in specialist field medicine workshops. – The aim is to make the medical competences needed in the modern battlefield, as well as to increase the cognition of extended care for victims – says Major Agnieszka Kazimierska, spokesperson for WCKMed.

Class will end with a military oath on Friday. Participants will receive a rank of private and thus the anticipation of continuing their careers in the military, e.g. territorial defence, active reserve or as professional soldiers. They can besides choose to transfer to a passive reserve.

The Medical Legion acts as a platform that records ready-to-use volunteers from the medical sector, conducts training with, among others, field medicine and creates regional preparedness centers in military medical safety areas. The aim of the programme is to affect a wide scope of specialists and volunteers in protecting the country's health, as well as consolidating the civilian medical community around the armed forces to guarantee a fast consequence to crises.
Ten engagement paths available under the Legion cover various areas of military-civil cooperation. Not all of them affect joining the army, specified as the "Service without Uniform" way for those who do not plan to become soldiers but want to follow the improvement of the Legion and possibly join selected activities in the future.

Within another paths, 1 can besides take part in training, exercises, conferences and courses, e.g. in tactical medicine; engage in the opinion and analysis of solutions in military medicine; study a willingness to participate in medical assistance during non-military disasters and threats in the country or on missions outside its borders.
