First lady: “For Life” – clear declaration and questions about in vitro

The interview given by Marta Nawrocka to TVN24 became 1 of the most publicized events of fresh days. At the heart of the conversation was the issue of abortion – a fundamental subject for thousands of Poles, for whom the right to life is an inviolable value. The first woman left no uncertainty about her position.

“I am above all for life,” she said. erstwhile asked about her opinion on abortion, she added: "I am for life and against abortion."

These words sounded peculiarly strong due to the fact that the president referred to her own history. As she recalled, as a very young girl, she faced a dramatic choice.

“I was faced with choice; I had things in my mind, but besides due to my faith, due to the support of the household I had, I gave birth. Now I have a wonderful 23-year-old boy and I do not regret for a minute this decision”

She confessed.

This individual evidence has become a strong voice in defence of life. The first woman showed that, even in hard circumstances, it is possible to make a decision in accordance with conscience and religion – a decision that brings fruit for life.

Questions about circumstantial legal solutions were besides raised during the discussion, but the president did not enter into detailed legislative considerations. The most crucial was a clear indication of direction: life – from conception – has value and deserves protection.

Journalist speaking

Many comments came out after the interview was released in public space. A writer Joanna Kryńska spoke about the case. In her statements to the Plejada portal, she stressed the importance of this conversation.

“I wanted us Polish women to hear the first lady,” she noted. She besides added: “It is very good that the first woman spoke. Poles want to know, they want to meet the first lady. They want to know what his views are.”

As she explained, the topics of the conversation were previously known by the law firm, and the consent for the interview itself was given shortly after the swearing-in of president Karol Nawrocki. For many, this was the first specified extended message by the first woman on worldview issues.

In vitro – without another restrictions

The further part of the discussion besides covered the in vitro procedure. Marta Nawrocka pointed out that she had not faced the infertility problem herself because, as she stressed, she is simply a “happy parent of 3 children”. At the same time, she stated:

“I wouldn’t limit it if individual can’t have a child. I would not restrict that right to another man."

Although her position on abortion was clear and without understatements – on the side of life from conception – there was a clear separation in vitro, which is hard to keep quiet. This procedure has for years raised serious concerns as it involves the creation of many human embryos, any of which are never given a chance to be born. In practice, this means selecting and rejecting human beings at the earliest phase of development.

That is why the in vitro acceptance position runs counter to the explicit declaration of ‘for life’. For if all life has value and dignity from conception, then it is not possible to ignore the fact that in the procedure of fertilization, circumstantial biologically existing human embryos are created. any are frozen, any die, any are eliminated. It's a reality that's seldom mentioned directly. It is hard to reconcile opposition to abortion with acceptance of the procedure, which – although motivated by the desire of parenting – besides affects the most susceptible human beings.

That is why in vitro is not just a medical issue, but a profoundly ethical one. Human life is not subject to grading or selection. Each embryo is simply a man in the first phase of improvement – a individual with full dignity. From this perspective, there is no way to neglect to see the tension between a clear declaration of the defence of life and the acceptance of a practice that treats life in an instrumental way.

This dissonance shows how hard and demanding it is to defend life – especially today, erstwhile social force and emotional arguments frequently obscure the moral dimension of the full matter.
