How much suffering will fit into the life communicative of 1 girl neglected by an alcoholic mother? What difficulties is faced by a kid burdened with the spectrum of fetal alcohol syndrome? And can a communicative like this – after all – end with a happy ending?
Aleksandra and Marcin Jaroszewiczie are married to a nine-year internship. She – a postgraduate of theology, he – an worker of the Museum of Cinematography in Lodz. She – since always an engaged volunteer of the Brat Albert Foundation, he – moving in a wheelchair male, a longtime volunteer at a kid home. After respective dates, Alexander invited Marcin to the wedding. Since then, they have created a unique bond, tried in the heat of regular struggles.
– Before the wedding, we talked about what we would do if we found out in the future that we couldn't have children. At the time, we didn't think life would say "I'm checking." After the wedding, it turned out that both me and Marcin were infertile. That was very hard information for us. We cried for hours, we besides went through matrimony therapy," says Aleksandra. “When we accepted the fact that we would not become biological parents, we decided that we would become a foster family. And step by step we have implemented this “Plan B” – he adds.
Dress size 74
Amelia went home to Ola and Marcin as a consequence of intervention in 2020, she was then 2 years and 2 months old. – Amelci's biological mom is addicted to alcohol. During 1 of the inspections, MOPS staff called the police. During Investigations A breathalyzer found that woman She was drunk, had almost 3 promes. In addition, she was pregnant at the time with another child, says Aleksandra.
Amelia was over 2 years old and did not respond to her name. She could not eat alone, due to the fact that the main ‘food’ her biological parent prepared was chocolate. The daughter would take a tiny ankle in her mouth and wait for it to dissolve. She couldn't bite, she couldn't taste the basics. It's unimaginable, but still... She was mainly fed with chocolate, manna and milk, says a woman. erstwhile she came to us, she was wearing a 74-size suit. She was small, undernourished, with multifaceted deficits – she adds.
– Her biological parents frequently left her at home and did not return for eight, 10 hours. What must have happened to specified a tiny child? How frightened did she gotta be? Plus, the alcohol and the deficiency of interest in your daughter... It's been many, many weeks before Amelka realized she was safe.
– says a woman.
The girl was diagnosed with FAS, which is fetal alcohol syndrome. In addition, Amelia suffers from diabetes, has a heart condition, progressive imagination disorder, a psychomotor delay, a tiny head and cerebral palsy. erstwhile she came to us, she was like this. infant. We've been expanding her diet, getting to know- real regular food. She could not play, she did not communicate her needs, she was highly neglected," says Aleksandra.
Four days that changed everything
– erstwhile we decided to be a foster family, we declared only having a healthy child. We weren't reasoning of a kid with disabilities due to Martin and the fact that he's in a wheelchair. We were aware that, for example, a lying kid could not be taken care of. Hence our reservations," explains Aleksandra. "When they called us from PCPR and told us about the small girl received in intervention, we were assured that she was healthy, but neglected. In 4 days we had to prepare the home for Amelia's arrival: we needed a cart, clothes, bottles, toys, everything... Unfortunately, all another day Amelia was here, bringing fresh difficulties and further diagnoses. However, we have overcome this immense amount of adversity, although on the way we shed a sea of tears – the girl's parent admits. – The worst was erstwhile Amelci was granted a disability ruling valid until the age of sixteen, i.e. for the maximum period for which specified a decision can be granted. It was like a collision with a wall. Then with all the power it came to us that she would never go straight," she adds.
Small – a large railway fan
However, Alexandra and Martin did not give up, and all day, step by step, they fight for the fitness of their daughter. Amelia has a wonderful aunt since therapy. She can already say “mama”, “daddy”, “eat”, “give”, “thank you” and many others. Her speech clearly accelerated after cutting the rod. She can play by herself, loves to dance, recognizes dozens of animals. He's crazy about trains. He has been attending kindergarten recently, and he besides has various activities, specified as going to the pool or to the theatre. As a result, he learns to live in society," explains Aleksandra.
The Jaroszewiczs receive support from the sick kid Fund. – Among another things, we usage money from your association for hippotherapy classes. Amelia responds well to horse meetings. Did I tell you he loves animals? Horses have a beneficial effect on her. She is calmer, her tense strategy clearly rests during specified activities. We're happy to take her there. If it wasn't for the fund, we couldn't afford this kind of rehabilitation," says Amelia's mom.
In addition to hiptherapy, Ola and Marcin guarantee that Amelka has regular contact with a speech therapist, neurologopeda, besides has the support of an assistant individual with disabilities, is under constant care of doctors. Ola gave up a well - paid occupation so she could take care of her daughter completely. – Only late we are a professional foster family, so I get a wage for being ready to accept another child. In addition, we have a supportive and nurturing service, due to the fact that Amelia has a ruling. Still, we live modestly. We rent an flat that is not adapted to a wheelchair. We drive a 12-year-old car. We live a simple, humble life – says Aleksandra.
From the first moment
Amelia's biological parents were deprived of parental rights, which allowed the girl to be adopted. The Jaroszewiczs admit that she loved them very quickly. – Marcin likes to say that he knew from the beginning that she was his daughter. She wrapped him around her finger. It took me a small longer, but after 2 or 3 weeks, I realized I was gone too. The chances that Amelia would be adopted were very small, precisely due to her under-performance. But for us who have always had people with disabilities in our surroundings, it was no problem. We just loved Amelia and decided that we wanted to be her parents, not just her guardians," says the woman.
– Believe me, at the time that Amelia was adopted by us, erstwhile she realized that it was her home forever, she began to grow even more. It has an unspoken atmosphere of spirit and joy. And the peace she needed so much," says Alexander. She knows she has 2 mothers and 2 fathers. We explain to her that 1 mom wore it in her belly, and we wore it in our heart. I remember that minute erstwhile we told her she already had our name. We said it was a stamp on the heart that we had the same. Amelka likes to say she has that stamp. And I think she already understands that neither 1 of us will always leave her.
