Pickets against xenophobia against Ukrainians in 2 cities

On Sunday, July 19, in Warsaw and Wroclaw, pickets were held, whose participants expressed opposition to xenophobia towards Ukrainians and called for Polish-Ukrainian reconciliation. The demonstrations were a reaction to a series of “anti-Ukrainian incidents” that late occurred in Poland.

Poles, Ukrainians and Belarusians participated in demonstrations in front of the Ukrainian embassy in Warsaw and in the marketplace Square in Wrocław. The demonstrators carried the flags of Poland and Ukraine and banners in both languages with slogans specified as “Let us not share”, “Stop Hate” and “We are with you wholeheartedly”.

Pickets against xenophobia following Ukrainian incidents in Bielsko-Biała and Gliwice

Organizers pointed out that the conventions were a consequence to events that occurred in Bielsko-Biała, where Ukraine in an adult man was to insult verbally 2 Ukrainian teenagers on a city bus, and in Gliwice, where a citizen of Ukraine was beaten, as well as the activists' attack on the office of the Ukrainian company.

The main organizer of the Warsaw picket, Dzmitry Hałko, said that the demonstrations are to be a consequence to increasing hostility in public space. He besides announced the organization of the nationwide relationship March, planned for August or September.

Several people attended the convention in Wrocław. The organizer of the event, Ewa Trojanowska, informed that it was a grassroots citizens' initiative, not connected with political parties or organizations. The participants called for a consequence to cases of force and the separation of current political disputes from historical issues.
