During the Wednesday discussion with PAP Studio, Ryszard Petru, MP and head of the Polish 2050 Parliamentary Committee of Economy, revealed that in the governmental circles “quietly talk about the anticipation of introducing a fresh tax, called a war tax.
War Tax: A fresh thought in the event of an exacerbated global situation
Ryszard Petru explained that although there are no authoritative plans to introduce fresh taxes, in the event of an exacerbated global situation, the government may consider introducing a war tax. "If the situation escalates, a one- or two-time taxation is introduced temporarily for a year or two, whereby everyone pays the same amount that is allocated to a peculiar reinforcement project, specified as a shield or aviation," Petru said.
The war taxation would be a temporary solution that would support the financing of key armament projects specified as the construction of rocket defence systems or the modernisation of aviation.
Modern weapons from South Korea: Continuation of deliveries
By the end of the week, Poland received another supply of arms from South Korea, covering 5 K2 tanks and 12 cannonhaubic K9. According to the Secretary of State at the Ministry of Defence, Paweł Bejda, these supplies will continue.
"Deliverment of modern military equipment must be implemented – even on the weekend! Tonight another transport arrived in Gdańsk – this time with 12 K9 self-propelled Haubics. We have another valuable transportation ahead of us," said Bejda on social media.
K2 is to become the most widely utilized tank kind in the Polish Army, which is simply a strategical step towards modernization of the Polish army.
Criticism and reminder of earlier contracts
Former head of the MON, Mariusz Błaszczak, recalled on his social media profiles that during his reign contracts were signed to acquisition arms from South Korea. "For our safety, it is good that we have already contracted both K2 tanks and K9 cannonhaubice. That's how we can choice up this equipment today. This power has 2 left hands – it cannot negociate and get funds for fresh weapons. The fresh K2 is gone, the next K9 is moving away. besides bad," commented Błaszczak.
The contract for transportation of 180 K2 and 672 K9A1 self-propelled tanks to Poland was signed in July 2022. This acquisition became essential in connection with Poland's commitments to Ukraine, which included the transportation of respective 100 T-72 and PT-91 tanks. In total, Poland delivered over 320 tanks of these types to Ukraine.
Reports from the Minister of Finance
Andrzej Domański referred to the substance a fewer hours later. The Finance Minister categorically denied at a gathering with journalists after the budget conference that the government would prepare a fresh taxation burden for citizens.
– We are not working on the war taxation – declared the head of the ministry, although it is worth noting that Petru could easy be overturned as he spoke of “quiet conversations”.
At a gathering with journalists, the minister was besides asked about the fulfilment of the electoral promise of Poland 2050, and specifically about the simplification of the wellness contribution.
– We did our part. We have secured resources for possible changes, we have proposals for coalitions. Poland 2050 has two. We'll talk next week. However, no solution was accepted. PSL is besides very powerfully active in discussions about possible changes in the wellness contribution," Domanski said.
However, in the face of the many lies that the Tusk Government has already sold to Poles, can this assurance be believed? We have mixed use, however, each of our readers may have an opinion on this. I'm certain time will verify it itself.
