The Central Statistical Office (GUS) provided the latest data needed to find the ratio of the value of pensions. At this point, it is 5.5%, but the government can decide on additional increases. Will pensioners get more?
Valorisation of pensions 2025 – we already know the indicator
Rules for the valorisation of pensions in Poland presume that its indicator is calculated on the basis of pension inflation and 20% of real wage growth. Now we know both key factors:
- Pension inflation in 2024 was 3.6 percent.
- Real wage increases were 9.5%., which means that 1.9% is added to valorisation.
Total gives it 5.5% of pension valorisation. Early estimates said 5.82%.but the final indicator turned out to be somewhat lower.
How much will pensions increase in 2024?
For the moment, valorization o 5.5% means the following increases in benefits:
- Minimum pension (since March 2024) – growth from PLN 1588.44 to PLN 1675.76 (+87,32 PLN)
- Retirement of PLN 2500 – growth to PLN 2637.50 (+137.50)
- Retirement of PLN 4000 – growth to PLN 4220 (+20 PLN)
Although the percent increases seem small, it is worth noting that they were much higher in fresh years. In 2023, the weighting rate was 14.8 percent.and in 2022 7 percent.
The government wants bigger increases? These are possible scenarios.
The government is considering modifying the rules on valorisation, which could increase pensions. Three options are most likely:
- Increase in wage growth in valorisation – presently included 20 percent.but the government analyses the option with 50 percent, which would increase the ratio of valorisation to 8.35 percent.
- Quota-percentation – the government can introduce a minimal increase in benefits e.g. by 150 PLN or 200 PLN.
- Equalising valorisation with real wage increases, i.e. raising pensions by 9.5 percentwhich would mean evidence increases.
If the government decides on the option with 8.35 percent valorisation, pensions would increase as follows:
- Minimum pension – PLN 1718.36 (+129.92 zł)
- Retirement PLN 2500 – PLN 2708.75 (+208.75)
- Pension 4000 PLN – PLN 4334 (+334 PLN)
A decision should be made on this substance in the coming daysbecause valorisation must enter into force from 1 March 2024.
When are pensioners gonna get a raise?
Valorization in Poland takes place 1 March each yearbut real increases in pensioners may depend on the date of payment of the benefit. First people will receive increased amounts already late February, and the remainder in March – according to the ZUS schedule.
Can the government afford higher value?
Raising the value index means higher expenditure on the state budget. At current level 5.5%the cost to the budget will be around PLN 20 billion. Increasing the ratio to 8.35 percent would mean additional billions of PLN expenditure.
The government so faces a hard choice – higher pensions mean greater financial burden, but they can besides aid improve the material situation of seniors and form an crucial part of social policy in the electoral year.
What awaits pensioners in 2025?
Apart from being valued, pensioners can number on additional benefits:
- Thirteenth Pension – paid in April, of minimum pension (at least PLN 1675.76 gross)
- Fourteenth Pension – planned for the second half of the year (amount dependent on government decision)
- The basic value index is 5.5%.
- The government examines the anticipation of expanding the rate up to 8.35 percent.
- New pensions will enter into force from 1 March 2024.
- The final decision on possible changes may be made in the coming days.
- Pensioners can number on additional benefits – 13th and 14th pensions.
All points to the fact that the government will search to increase the valorisation – the question of whether it will be possible to find adequate resources in the budget. 1 thing is certain – in 2025 millions of pensioners are waiting for concrete decisions that can importantly affect their finances.
