The European Parliament has waived the immunity of 2 Euro MPs of Law and Justice - Michał Dworczyk and Daniel Obietk. The decision was made during the Tuesday vote in Strasbourg.
Requests to waive immunity were made in 2024 by then Minister of Justice and lawyer General Adam Bodnar. Both cases concern various allegations related to the political activity of both politicians.
The Court case
The charges against Michał Dworczyk concern the usage of a private email box while acting as head of the Prime Minister's office. Through an unsecured mailbox, Dworzyk was to conduct correspondence containing classified information.
The Obeska case
In the case of Daniel Obietek, the case concerns the conclusion of 2 contracts for detective services by Orlen. The services of the company designated by Obiek as the head of the company were to service his private interests.
The immunity of the Euro MP shall be collected on a circumstantial case at the request of the national authorities. The waiver of immunity allows criminal proceedings against parliamentarians.
