On Tuesday, the European Parliament's legal committee (JURI) advocated the repeal of the immunity of Euro MPs PiS: Michał Dworczyk and Daniel Obytkowski - EU sources passed on to PAP.PAP

The European Parliament's legal committee advocated the waiver of immunity for 2 Polish MEPs from Law and Justice. This applies to Daniel Obalek, erstwhile president of Orlen, and Michał Dworczyk, erstwhile Head of the Chancellery of the Prime Minister.

The decision of the committee is simply a advice for the full home of Europarliament. The final decision shall be taken by a simple majority vote in Strasbourg.

Charges against Obiekt

The request to waive immunity was made by then Minister of Justice Adam Bodnar to the EP on 19 December 2024. It concerns a failure to fulfil obligations and an excess of powers to accomplish individual benefit.

According to the prosecution's findings, it was about Orlen concluding 2 detective service contracts with the company indicated by Obietek. The same company previously provided services for the individual protection of Obiek and his assets.

Dworczyk's email scandal

The application in the case of Michał Dworczyk Bodnar was filed in late August 2024 in connection with the alleged email scandal. It broke out in June 2021 erstwhile fragments of correspondence from a private mailbox of politics appeared online.

Dworczyk then stated that he had informed the state services about the hacking into his email and wife's mailbox and into social media accounts. He estimated that there was "no information in the email box that was classified, proprietary, secret or top secret".

Parliament procedure

Every request to waive the immunity of the Euro MP goes to the EP's legal committee, which prepares the report. The Commission is not bound by a certain deadline, but usually takes respective months.

The waiver of immunity does not mean that the Euro MP is found guilty, but only allows the national judicial authorities to conduct an investigation or trial. If the Euro MP is found guilty, it shall be for the associate State authorities to decide to revoke the mandate.
