Only 7 percent of people live in liberal democracies, while 74 percent live in autocracies. This is according to the Varieties of Democracy report, describing the situation at the end of 2025. This is an crucial number for the global economy. Liberal democracy, combining elections with the regulation of law and limitations on power, has become a demographic minority.
