Professor Sergio Alfieri – the head of the medical squad who watched over Pope Francis during a fewer weeks of infirmary stay and severe pneumonia, estimated that the Pope's recovery was “awesome”.
“This is truly surprising, but he is Pope and has direct contact with the superior. We have done our part, all doctors and nurses" – we read in the joking message of the prof. quoted by PAP.
The doctor besides recalled the most hard moments of the Pope's infirmary stay. He admitted that at any point the medical squad was convinced that their patient would not make it to the morning. The pope himself was besides to have this awareness.
Despite the demanding recovery process, the pope visited the Roman prison on Thursday, where he met the prisoners. The visit was private and lasted half an hour. The Mass of the Lord's Supper in St Peter's Basilica was held by the papal delegate Cardinal Mauro Gambetti.
