P. Krzemiński: Evangelizing under the fire of philosophers, or Saint Paul on Areopagus

wprawo.pl 1 year ago

Imagine Saint Paul on the Areopagus erstwhile 1 himself discussed with groups of philosophers. We know from the account of Acts that it was specifically the Epicureans and Stoics. any had dissolved in flesh and pleasures, claimed that man’s life ended with death, and that is why it is essential to quit temporality. The Stoics, on the another hand, believed that the soul was trapped in the body and should be despised, and that everything that the planet had to look at from a "god's distance."

Saint Paul intended to preach to the Gentiles of the 1 God, Jesus Christ. Any man who would gotta discuss with many wise men would surely lose his confidence, but not Saint Paul. He did not bend his knee, nor was he afraid of defeat for a moment, due to the fact that the Holy Spirit was with him. It is simply a model for us to defend our faith. How many times have we been afraid to talk of Christ due to the fact that we were afraid of intellectual skirmishes? After all, preaching the fact is not just a discussion, but a fulfillment of a mission to which all Catholic is obliged.

Many scientists present mock religion and make increasingly absurd sophisms that slander the fact about Christ. We cannot give in to specified a tendency, let us go out against these wise men and show that the fact of God is not the "truth" of this world.

Saint Paul failed to convert a single philosopher. Does this show the ineffectiveness of his actions? This minute in the life of Saint Paul, erstwhile he was in the religion of his apostolic mission, teaches something else. There are people who will never want to accept Christ. But we must not quit erstwhile even St Paul failed to convert the Athenian thinkers.

In the 21st century we face the temptation to blend in, to be “modern” and “unconflict”. In a word, Christians should sit quietly like a mouse under a broom, while planet giants spit on the truths of faith. Will we follow the voice of this comfort and become a compromise in a sphere where there is no way of thinking? Certain truths simply should be accepted or rejected, there is nothing in between. But this is not an expression of fideism, but a conscious choice that our head makes.

The beautiful times erstwhile the lay were accomplished by the wonderful sermons that the priests preached out of the pulpit have passed. Of course, our full religion depends on priests, without them we could not participate in the sacraments. However, we are committed to helping priests where they cannot scope them, or their message is unclear. Let us educate ourselves and read spiritual readings. If individual is curious in the missions of St. Paul of Tarsus, I mention to the extended monograph by Fr.

The author in more than 7 100 pages presents the figure of St. Paul, presents little known themes of his biography, and besides comprehensively discusses the various issues known from Acts. I want all reader, at the end of his earthly journey, to say, "In good competition I have done, I have finished, I have kept faith" (2 Tim 4:7).
