TOULOUSE- A sudden strike by civil aviation workers has severely disrupted operations at Toulouse-Blagnac Airport (TLS) today (May 6, 2025). This resulted in the cancellation of approximately 30% of scheduled flights and affecting thousands of travellers.
Passengers are encouraged to maintain contact with their airlines and monitor the Toulouse-Blagnac Airport (TLS) website for the latest developments regarding this ongoing situation.

Toulouse Airport Worker Strike
According to French news outlet La Dépęche, airport workers initiated the walkout due to “growing social tension in the transportation sector.”
The strike occurs against the backdrop of separate ongoing industrial action by French rail workers. This compounds transportation difficulties across the country.
At present, the DGAC has indicated that only flights scheduled for Tuesday will be directly affected by the strike. However, aviation experts warn that Wednesday operations could experience knock-on effects as airlines scramble to reposition aircraft and crew members.

France’s Civil Aviation Authority, Direction générale de l’Aviation civile (DGAC), made the unexpected announcement late Monday afternoon via social media platform X, giving travellers minimal time to adjust their plans.
As of 8:00 AM Tuesday, the strike had already resulted in the cancellation of at least 28 departing flights and 27 arriving flights, with numbers expected to rise throughout the day.
Major carriers, including British Airways (BA), Ryanair (FR), easyJet (U2), Lufthansa (LH), Iberia (IB), and Air France (AF), have all been forced to cancel services.
Several key connections between Toulouse and the United Kingdom have been affected by the industrial action. British Airways (BA) cancelled its 11:25 AM flight to London Heathrow (LHR), while Ryanair’s 1:15 PM service to London Stansted (STN) has also been grounded. Multiple other UK-bound flights face potential delays or cancellations as the day progresses.

Delayed Flights
Passengers with flights still operating face potential delays as the airport struggles to maintain operations with reduced staff. Those who managed to keep their travel plans intact are experiencing longer security lines and processing times throughout the terminal.
“Even if your flight is still scheduled, you should anticipate delays throughout the day. The impact of this industrial action will be felt across all airport operations.”
DGAC spokesperson
The DGAC has confirmed that the strike action is currently limited to Toulouse-Blagnac Airport (TLS), with no other French airports reporting similar disruptions. This localised action suggests specific concerns among Toulouse aviation workers rather than a nationwide issue within the sector.
Travellers scheduled to fly to or from Toulouse (TLS) today are strongly advised to verify their flight status before heading to the airport.
The airport’s website features live departure and arrival information, though passengers should also contact their airlines directly for the most up-to-date information regarding their specific flights.

Compensation Options
Passengers whose flights have been cancelled will receive standard compensation from their respective airlines. However, those experiencing delays face more complicated compensation scenarios.
Under current regulations, strike action by non-airline staff—including air traffic controllers and airport personnel—typically qualifies as an “extraordinary circumstance” beyond airline control. This classification often exempts carriers from providing compensation for resulting delays.
Industry observers note that compensation regulations may soon change further. Proposed modifications to flight delay payout rules could potentially affect millions of travellers.

Airport authorities have not indicated how long the strike might last, creating uncertainty for travellers with flights scheduled in the coming days.
The DGAC continues to monitor the situation and will provide updates as negotiations with striking workers progress.
