The Polish army will not shortly be equipped with Ottokar-Brzoz tank destroyers. At the end of last year, the Armed Forces Agency announced a PGZ-Ottokar consortium signed in 2022 a framework agreement that provided for the improvement of a prototype of fresh arms and its serial production. MON announces that the destroyer program will return in a fresh formula.
Four years ago, the Ministry of National Defence announced a crucial strengthening of the capabilities of anti-tank land troops. Within each division, including 2 recently formed, anti-tank regiments were to function. This meant in practice that in addition to the only unit of this kind in the Polish Army, i.e. 14th Anti-tank Regiment from Suwałk, there will be 5 more tactical components dedicated strictly to combat enemy tanks and armored vehicles of the opponent.
According to plans of the General Staff of the Polish Army and the Ministry of Defence, the primary weaponry of the regiments was to be tank destroyers with a code name Ottokar-Brozen. Their improvement and serial production were entrusted to the Polish Armed Forces Group.
Framework agreement from the consortium PGZ-Ottokar, which included PGZ S.A., Huta Stalowa Wola S.A., Mesko S.A. and Military Electronic Works S.A., was signed in the summertime of 2022. It predicted that prototype weaponry would enter investigation and investigating in 2023, and its serial production would begin in 2025. Importantly, the Polish military decided that Ottokar-Brzoz's weapon would be developed by MBDA UK Brimstone anti-tank missilesThe production of which in our country was to be handled by Mesko S.A.
The Framework Agreement provided that within 18 months of the launch of the formal procedure for the implementation contract concerning Ottokar-Brzeza the Agency The armed forces will receive all essential papers from the consortium, including the planned transportation agenda and price offers (including services and repairs). Unfortunately, as the AU reported a fewer days ago, the PGZ failed to comply with its 2022 Framework Agreement obligations.
‘On 11 March 2024, an executive contract award procedure was opened and by 1 October 2025 the conditions laid down in the framework contract were not met to enable the conclusion of the implementing contract. Thus, on 26 September 2025, 18 months after the date of transmission of the invitation to negociate the implementing agreement, according to the provisions of the framework agreement, it was terminated on the basis of the rules laid down in it," informed the Media Armed Forces Agency. At the same time, she announced that our military did not intend to quit plans to get tank destroyers, and that their acquisition program would be restarted.
Unfortunately, PGZ representatives do not explain why the holding company did not supply the agency with papers enabling the signing of an executive agreement on Ottokary-Brzozy. However, they declare that the Group is inactive curious in this project. – The concept of Ottokar-Brzoz's program in PGZ inactive exists and is possible to present within the framework of the fresh formula, which will be created by the Contracting Authority – informed Polish-Army.pl Office of Communication and External Relations PGZ S.A. “With respect to the effector, the Polish Armed Forces Group is ready to present various alternate solutions that will meet the requirements of the Contracting Authority”, added the PGZ office.
