The passing year was full of historical, landmark moments, and each of them was attended by photojournalists of the Polish Press Agency and cooperating agencies. From her collection, PAP selected the best photographs in 2024. They include, for example, flood photos in Kłodzek or bleeding after the shot by Donald Trump. All of this is available on a recording of little than 9 minutes.
In 2024. more than a million photos were sent to the Polish Press Agency photographic database - more than 300 000 of these were taken by PAP photojournalists, over 700 000 are EPA photographs (European Pressphoto Agency), and half a million more come from another friendly agencies. Thanks to this PAP managed to paper all the most crucial events of the year.
"We are everywhere where the most crucial things happen. surely 1 of the biggest challenges in 2024 was for us to study on the next year of the war in Ukraine, where photojournalists frequently work virtually on the front line" - said Michał Wielgus, head of the PAP photograph editor.
From its database the Polish Press Agency selected "Photos of the Year 2024". Among the respective twelve selected photographs are, among others, showing Destroyed by the Kłodzko flood, bleeding after Donald Trump was shot. is missile detonation in Gaza Strip.
Thanks to photographs available in PAP database historical events - specified as full of unexpected returns presidential elections in the United States, emotional Olympic Games in Paris, drawing attention not only to football fans Euro 2024 in Germany - will stay with us for years not only in memory, but besides in the painting.
"Our work combines many seemingly contradictory elements. We request to be vigilant, due to the fact that sometimes a good photograph is to capture virtually this 1 fraction of a second: a gesture, a smile, a blink of an eye. On the another hand, be patient due to the fact that taking a good image frequently takes hours to wait. Last but not least: fast and mobile to get to where something crucial is happening, and to pass it on as rapidly as possible to our recipients" - emphasised Michał Wielgus.
Year 2024 in pictures
Photojournalists surely cannot complain about monotonity at work. Even if they go to the Sejm for the theoretically predictable debate or press conference of a given policy, the minute they have seen and documented can instantly hit the top of the biggest news portals.
"Therefore, 2025 will besides be very intense for us: our task will be first to study on the Polish Presidency in the EU, and then presidential elections in our country, based on hundreds of meetings, gatherings, press briefings" - explained the head of the PAP photograph editor.
The photographer should besides have the soul of the artist, as any of the "Photos of the Year 2024", depicting the beauty and magic of nature - specified as photo of the eyes over Gdynia is a comet over the Earth C/2023 A3. The aesthetic sense, which allows to decently cast and sharpen the photo, yet provides millions of audiences with unique impressions.
Photos from 2024 joined the multimillion-dollar archive photograph collection of the Polish Press Agency, illustrating the most crucial events of fresh decades in Poland and around the world.
