Benjamin Netanyahu sent a letter to Emmanuel Macron, in which he powerfully criticized his announcement of the designation of the Palestinian state. The Elysée Palace rapidly responded to the Prime Minister of Israel.


According to abroad media, relations between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and French president Emmanuel Macron have intensified again. The reason is Paris' announcement that in September, at the UN General Assembly, France will officially recognise the Palestinian state.

Benjamin Netanyahu sent a letter to the president of France on Sunday. Its fragments are quoted, among others, by Politico. Israeli prime minister accused Emmanuel Macro of "saturating anti-Semitism" in France and attempted to tie his policy towards Palestine with the expanding number of anti-Jewish incidents in that country.

"It's not diplomacy, it's concessions. This rewards Hamas' terror, strengthens his refusal to release hostages, gives encouragement to those who endanger French Jews, and fuels hatred against Jews who are now spreading on your streets," wrote the Prime Minister of Israel.

"Your call to make a Palestinian state adds fuel to the fire of anti-Semitism," Netanjahu added. In the same letter he besides praised US president Donald Trump, stressing that this "protects the civilian rights of American Jews, enforces the law, takes care of public order and pursues anti-Semitic crimes".

France corresponds to Netanjahu


The consequence of the Elysée Palace did not take long. Macron's office condemned Netanjah's words and described them as "mistaken and wicked," adding that they would not stay unanswered. The message highlighted that France was actively fighting anti-Semitism, and the number of incidents actually increased after Hamas attacks of 7 October 2023.

"(France) protects and will always defend its judaic people," added. The letter besides stresses that the situation requires seriousness and responsibility, "not confusion and manipulation".

On July 24, Macron announced that France would support the designation of the Palestinian state in September at the UN meeting. This decision met with an Israeli critic who accused Paris of "rewarding Hamas" for a terrorist attack in which about 1,200 people were killed and about 250 were abducted as hostages.

The United Kingdom, Canada and Australia besides made akin declarations.
