Photo White home / Department of Public SafetyAnother installment of the sharp conflict between the Presidential Palace and the Chancellery of the Prime Minister triggered a powerful wave of comments on social media and diplomacy. All thanks to the loud interview of president Karol Nawrocki for “Rzeczpospolita” in which he assessed the real level of threat from Russia and referred to the political position of Grzegorz Braun.
In an interview, Karol Nawrocki critically referred to earlier statements by Donald Tusk for the abroad press, accusing him of causing unnecessary anxiety among Western allies. The president pointed out that according to intelligence reports, the Russian threat level has remained close for months and there are no drastic changes.
The head of state besides opened up to dialog with parliamentary communities present in the Sejm, answering the question about the patronage of the Confederation of Polish Crown Grzegorz Braun.
The reaction of the head of government to the President's words was immediate and highly categorical.
The Prime Minister's comment published on social media left no area for understatement:
"Mr Karol Nawrocki stated that he did not see Russia's threat rise. He besides sees no problem in the presence of Braun and his pro-Russian organization in Polish politics. Thanks for being honest."
Donald Tusk considered the President's approach to east politics and right-wing groups to be an expression of utmost recklessness in the current geopolitical situation.
Foreign policy dispute and ambassador nominations
A further axis of the dispute remains paralysis in the cast of key diplomatic posts in the world. In a press interview, Karol Nawrocki declared his desire to return to the talks on signing the ambassadorial nominations, however, placing a hard condition: the talks are to be held only straight with Prime Minister Donald Tuski, with the exception of the head of the MFA Radosław Sikorski.
The government position on the President's function in abroad policy has been equally firm.
The answer from the Chancellery of the Prime Minister was formulated by government spokesperson Adam Szpiek:
"The president is not from conducting abroad policy".
The government takes the view that diplomatic issues lie entirely within the remit of the Ministry of abroad Affairs and the Council of Ministers, and that the dependence of nominations on individual negotiations with the Prime Minister constitutes a breach of the constitutional framework.
