Recently, the media speculated that Budapest could be the venue for the gathering between Volodymyr Zelenski and Vladimir Putin, but the president of Ukraine excluded this possibility. Meanwhile, abroad media reports that Orban in a letter to Trump complained about Ukraine's actions.
Victor Orban complains about Ukraine
According to Politico portal, the head of the Hungarian government wrote Trump after the Ukrainian drone attack on the oil pipeline "Friendship". It provides Russian oil to Hungary, Slovakia and another Central European countries across Ukraine.
The attack took place on the night of August 13. Orban emphasized in his letter that the event took place "just before the historical gathering of president Trump and president Putin in Alaska". The damaged pipeline managed to restart on 19 August, but 2 days later another attack occurred.
"This is another attack on the energy safety of our country, another effort to get us into war," wrote the head of the Hungarian Ministry of abroad Affairs on social media.
Both attacks carried out by the Forces of Unmanned Systems of Ukraine commanded by Robert Brovdi, known as "Madyar". It refers to his Hungarian roots. Brovdi, announcing the second attack on the Telegram, utilized the slogan "Ruszki haza!" ("Russians, home"), taken from the Hungarian uprising of 1956.
Victor Orban, who is known for maintaining close relations with the Kremlin even after Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022, did not hide outrage.
"Hungary supports Ukraine with electricity and petrol, in return bombing pipelines that supply us. A very hostile move," he wrote in a letter to Trump.
So Donald Trump responded to Orban's letter
US president Donald Trump responded to a letter from the Prime Minister of Hungary. He admitted that he was "very angry" after information about the harm to the Russian pipeline.
"Victor, I don't like to hear that. I'm very angry about this. Tell it to Slovakia" wrote Trump in a letter whose content was published online by the ruling Fidesz party. "You are my large friend," added the president of the United States.
Budapest obtained a temporary exemption from the EU ban on Russian oil imports, which allowed to increase purchases of natural material through land pipelines and profit from reduced prices.
