The environment of erstwhile anti-communist opposition activists expressed deep concern about the decision to grant the position of anti-communist opposition activist Mieczysław Wachowski. This criticism concerns both the legitimacy of granting position and the decision-making process led by Lech Parell, Head of the Office for Combatants and Represented Persons.
Insecure evidence and short internation history
The granting of the position was based on the formal internment of Wachowski, which according to historians was short-lived and could have been part of the arrangements with the authorities of the Polish People's Republic. Historian Prof. Sławomir Cenckiewicz noted that Wachowski spent only a fewer hours in Strzebielink, after which it was decided to transport him to Warsaw. There he was expected to take the function of mediator between interned Lech Walesa and the authorities.
Critics of the decision stress that in the past, the Pomeranian Consultative Council rejected Wachowski's proposal to recognise him as an opposition activist, recognising his evidence as insufficient. The only paper supporting the application was Danuta Wałęsa's message at the time.
