"A breakthrough", "historic" – that's what Prime Minister Donald Tusk and president Emmanuel Macron spoke of recently. The signing of the fresh relationship and cooperation agreement between Warsaw and Paris was officially held on 9 May.
– Polish-French relationship is simply a bond of heart, which reaches many centuries. If we are talking about the treaty, we are primarily talking about defence and security. We request a strong Europe, and Poland and France can make a decisive contribution to this," said Macron shortly after the contract was signed.
The French "Le Monde" emphasized that this was the first treaty on relationship and cooperation with a state that does not border France. As Mateusz Przyborowski wrote in Thematics, the fresh agreement will replace the 1 concluded in 1991. The Treaty of more than 30 years ago is very outdated – it states, for example, that France should do everything possible to enable Poland to join the European Union.
What is France investing most in Poland?
Donald Tusk stressed before leaving for France that the most crucial for him under the fresh agreement were common safety guarantees. – The clause on common support in the event of an attack on 1 of our countries is the essence of this treaty from the point of view of our interests – said the head of the Polish government. The Treaty besides opens up the anticipation of cooperation on key defence technologies.
The French-Polish Chamber of Commerce emphasises that Poland is simply a key economical partner of France in Central and east Europe. It was in our country that French companies placed nearly half of all investment in the region. The value of French investments in Poland is PLN 113 billion, which translates into 227 1000 created jobs.
It is besides worth paying attention to the main sectors of activity. It is industrial processing (27%), information and communication, transport and logistics (24%), trade (18%), professional services (10%), finance and banking (10%), real property marketplace (8%) and construction (3%).
