In democracy, the media has a controlling role, of course. They ask, they follow, they track, they dig. But they are not allowed to publically discredit those who, for various reasons, are incapable to bear the burden of their erstwhile authority. Lech Wałęsa, the erstwhile president of the Republic of Poland, should be treated primarily with due dignity today. Unfortunately, he is increasingly exposed to the media arena not as a witness to history, but as a hero of the cabaret.
