In the context of the current political campaign, issues relating to the future of social benefits, specified as the 500 plus or 13th and 14th pensions, are an crucial point of public debate. The opposition must face allegations suggesting that, after taking power, it could abandon these key social programs.

Many proposals for the improvement of these benefits have emerged on the political stage, from ideas of limiting their scope, by granting them only to the children of working parents, to focusing on the most deprived social groups. These suggestions have caused concern among the current beneficiaries afraid about the future of the benefits they presently enjoy.

However, the last message from the Civic Platform seems to address these concerns. Andrzej Domański, advisor to Donald Tusk and co-author of the PO program, emphasized in an interview that there is no mention of resigning from programs specified as 500 plus or 13th and 14th retirement. He pointed out that these benefits are an integral part of the life of Poles and are not planned to destruct them.

Additionally, the leader of the Polish People's organization (PSL), Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, proposed that pensioners should benefit from greater benefits if they eliminated income taxation from 13th and 14th retirement. This thought was met by economists who noted that the current taxation mainly includes more prosperous seniors, and for those receiving lower non-tax pension benefits provides crucial support. Kosiniak-Kamysz himself stressed that this is simply a subject for future discussions, and neither organization intends to take distant any existing social benefits. Ultimately, the improvement of social policy remains an crucial point in the public debate affecting public elections.

FUTURE PROGRAMMES

It turns out that the coalition, despite maintaining current benefits, is besides planning to introduce respective fresh initiatives. The pace of implementation of these plans will depend on the velocity at which the coalition takes power.
