Officer stars for WAT graduates

This year's graduates of the Military method Academy will strengthen officers' corps including cybersecurity, logistics and air force. – Being an officer is simply a work for people – subordinates and our fellow citizens, whose defence is our main mission – said General Wiesław Kukuła, Head of the General Staff of the Polish Army during the officer's promotion.



On a ceremonial officer's promotion held on 6 July in Military method Academy, the rank of lieutenant received over 600 university graduates. 504 of them were graduates of five-year master's degree, and 106 completed a six-month Officers' College. The Academy, as it was all year, besides distinguished the primates. They were first promoted to the first rank of officer. The best of them – Lieutenant Radosław Jurecki, postgraduate of the Faculty of Mechatronics, Armed Forces and Aviation – was awarded by president Andrzej Duda with an honorary white weapon. His average rating was 4.78. Second place was won by Lieutenant Jakub Grątkiewicz, a postgraduate of the Cybernetics Department, with an average rating of 4.75. He was awarded honorary white weapons by the Minister of National Defence. The 3rd place was obtained by Lieutenant Kajetan Płacht, who graduated from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. His average ratings were 4.70, for which he was awarded by the Rector-Chief of WAT a postgraduate of the Military method Academy.

WAT graduates were appointed as officers by, among others, the Head of the General Staff of the Polish Army General Wiesław Kukuła, Commander-General of the Types of Armed Forces Gen. weapon Marek Sokołowski, Deputy Head of SGWP Gen. Dyw. Dariusz Pluta and operational commander of the types of armed forces Gen. Dyw. Maciej Klish.

Difficulties build character

General Wiesław Kukuła, head of SGWP, addressed the recently appointed officers. I know how much sacrifices and hardships these studies cost. But it is precisely overcoming difficulties that builds the strength of character, while this is simply a feature of all good officer. Your unique skills predispose you to the function of leaders of the digital transformation of the armed forces and the state," said the general. “Being an officer, however, means not so much interacting with technology, everyday work for people – subordinates and our fellow citizens, whose defence is our main mission,” said the head of the SGWP. He introduced the young officers ten principles to be followed in their ministry. These include taking care of their soldiers, respect for commanders, the request to take challenges, humility and strive for victory. “Be a change for the better. Don't wait for the shift to come up. Inspire change, change yourself and your immediate surroundings. People love challenges. Give it to them. Be patient and consistent," says 1 of the principles presented by General Wiesław Kukuła.



WAT – a place for peculiar people

Her rector-commandant, Brig. Gen. Prof. Przemysław Wachulak, besides addressed the pupils of the Military method Academy. He stressed Poland's importance for NATO and the European Union. "Therefore, decisions and actions presently taken by the state authorities and commanders of the Polish Army to rise the level of safety of our state and defence, especially in the context of current events", said Gen. Wachulak. – We cannot choose the times we live in, but we can choose the way we will follow. Your presence present is proof that your hearts are close to the safety of your homeland and you feel liable for its future. For this I thank you wholeheartedly," said the Rector-Commander.

The young officers besides listened to a letter sent to them by the head of the armed forces, president Andrzej Duda. "The coming years are challenging with respect to safety and the conditions for unchangeable improvement of the country. In responding to them, we effort to strengthen the armed forces quantitatively while besides ensuring their qualitative development. This is reflected in many modernisation programmes, which produce increasingly effective tools passed on to soldiers in the form of weapons and another equipment or systems utilized to defend the country," wrote the President. However, he pointed out that what constitutes the force of the army was her soldiers. "This human mind, its capabilities, acquired cognition and skills are inactive the most powerful weapon we can defy emerging threats. The tradition of the Military method Academy is to gather specified minds in their walls and build from them a pool of talents aimed at promoting homeland security. I would like to thank the authorities, the technological and educational staff and all the university staff for developing the state of individual predispositions and enriching them with additional qualifications essential in the officer's service," the president stressed.

The ceremony was besides attended by Stanisław Wzątek, Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Defence, who congratulated the officers and read a letter addressed to them by the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of National Defence Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz. "You have decided to become 1 of the best method universities in Poland, well-deserved and highly acclaimed in the technological community, as military and civil. In its walls, you have gained cognition and officers' skills from many later prominent commanders, scientists and inventors, large patriots and valuable citizens. Studying at this university meant years of hard work, mobilization and determination, and most likely sacrifices and submission to their plans. I think it was worth it, due to the fact that it is indeed a place for exceptional people with clearly targeted interests and clearly defined goals, for those who know what they want to do in life and how to accomplish it," wrote Władysław Kosiniak-Kamish.

On behalf of the recently appointed officers, Mr Radosław Jurecki, Prime Minister of WAT, spoke. – We can proudly, appointed by generals, after making a solemn vow, enter the next phase of our soldier's life. W 25th anniversary of Poland's accession to NATO, aware of the challenges that await us, we join the ranks of officers of the Polish Army – he said. The officer thanked, among others, WAT lecturers for their work in their education. “We assure you that the lessons we have learned from our cooperation with you will form the foundation of our future service, especially as commanders,” said Mr Radosław Jurecki.

The officers appointed on Saturday will power the individual corps: military engineering – 36 graduates, cryptology and cybersecurity – 40, logistics – 180, communications and computer discipline – 95, defence against weapons of mass demolition – 13, general – 2, anti-aircraft – 20, designation and electronic combat – 29, air force – 43, ground troops – 38 and Military Gendarmerie – 8 graduates. On the another hand, graduates of the six-month course will supply individual corps: cryptology and cybersecurity – 6 graduates, logistics – 44, communications and computer discipline – 53 and air force – 1 graduate.
