Gen. defends Krzysztof Król, advisor to the head of SGWP, the erstwhile chief of staff of the Allied Joint Forces Command (JFC) in Brunssum, presented the improvement of a contemporary concept of deterrence which appeared in a strategy developed by NATO in 1949 in consequence to the actions of the USSR and was developed in subsequent strategies adopted during the Cold War. "In the 1990s, strategical reasoning changed. The deterrence, which focused on punishing in the event of aggression against NATO countries or denying access to the Alliance's territory, has changed to managing crisis conflicts outside the treaty area. The alliance began to focus on non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.
