During his speech at the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, Prime Minister Nikol Paszynian responded to the continued usage by president Ilham Aliyev of the word "Zangezurski Corridor", stressing that in Armenia it is perceived as a territorial claim and associated with "the rhetoric of the conflict".
"I think my Azerbaijani colleague should explain what he means by utilizing this phrase due to the fact that in Armenian reality it is perceived as a territorial claim towards Armenia and associated with the rhetoric of the conflict," said Paszynian in his speech, adding that "this rhetoric does not strengthen people's religion in peace and conflicts with the atmosphere of peace and with agreements reached at the highest level."
Paszynian besides referred to Aliyev's earlier statements about the "resigned surrender of Armenia".
"To be honest, I do not understand, with specified a large affirmative achievement, achieved by joint efforts, why usage aggressive subtexts that have nothing to do with nonsubjective reality. Does not peace bring adequate joy and satisfaction? For example, he gives me," said Paszynian, adding that Armenia is “a democratic state that develops at an awesome pace, independent, sovereign and building up its future today, a country that does not feed or spread hatred towards its neighbours or anyone else.”
"I draw the attention of the global community that the alleged ‘Zangezurski Corridor’ and akin narratives do not consequence from the agreements reached, they have no connection with them, they origin irritation and negative effects, and are perceived as a territorial claim against a sovereign state, despite the agreements concluded and announced," said Paszynian.
"But it surely won't distract us either by a millimeter from celebrating the peace achieved and implementing the announced agreements," he concluded, commenting on Aliyev's statements.
Most of his speech was devoted to the peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan, highlighting the advancement made since his last speech at the UN in 2024.
Among these achievements, he peculiarly stressed the ratification of the activities of the joint demarcation committee, which became the first bilateral global paper signed and ratified between Armenia and Azerbaijan; the draft peace treaty agreed in March and initialled in August in Washington; as well as the Washington Declaration signed with the participation of US president Donald Trump, which presented the Trump way for global peace and prosperity (TRIPP).
Paszynian besides talked about reviving the affirmative dialog between Armenia and Turkey, stressing that his meetings with Turkey's president Recep Tayyip Erdogan "are taking place regularly, with a increasing level of trust."
