Orientation in the field, extinguishing the fire, building shelter in the forest, providing pre-medical assistance, recognizing alarm signals – they are only part of the tasks with which participants in the endurance course faced. Classes in the 12th Mechanized Brigade in Szczecin were organized as part of a nationwide voluntary defence training program in Gotość.
“The applicable skills acquired during the exercise will not only be useful in a crisis situation, but besides the cognition needed for safe and conscious operation in everyday life,” says Colonel Mariusz Ostapiak, Deputy Commander 12 Mechanized Brigade. On the unit's premises last weekend 66 people took part in endurance art training. They were organised under the MON programme "inReadyIt’s okay. ”
The participants were divided into groups, and then together with the instructors they began to learn, among others, to supply pre-medical assistance, safe evacuation, as well as designation of alarm signals. The classes were held in the form of teaching points, and individual groups went to the next 1 after the task.
Knowledge is security
The first of the issues raised were the principles of fire safety and the usage of fire-neutralizers. Instructors set fire to a tank filled with flammable liquid, and the coursers' task was to extinguish the fire with powder fire extinguishers and fire blankets. – We want each associate to get utilized to the fire extinguisher. At the minute of stress and the real threat of fire, there are problems with e.g. pulling the safety pin – explained 1 of the instructors from the Military Fire defender 12 Brigade.
The next task was to treat wounds and to cover bleeding. The students learned, among others, to apply sterile gas dressings and elastic bandages as well as to put on a force band inhibiting bleeding. They besides learned about the usage of haemostatic agents, specified as chitosan swabs, an active substance derived from crustacean armor, causing fast blood clotting.
“In the fight for human life, all second counts, so it is worth training, for example, from dressing wounds,” says Agnieszka, a associate of classes. By 12 BZ she came from Kolobrzeg with her husband, who persuaded her to take part in the training. According to Agnieszka, any effort to prepare for a situation of emergency is the key to ensuring that you and your loved ones have the essential security.
When the cities are not safe
Participants besides took part in endurance classes outside urban areas. They learned, among others, to build shelters in the forest to prevent rain and wind. utilizing available materials: moss, branches, barks and leaves, they constructed an A-shaped shelter. They besides learned how to light a fire with a flint, how to boil water in a fire in a plastic or glass bottle, and how to know the field with a compass and a map.
