NEW TARG | 162. Anniversary of the January Uprising and 1000th anniversary of the coronation of Polish King Bolesław Chrobry

The Polish paper Club in Nowy Targ organized the celebration of the 162nd anniversary of the outbreak of the January Uprising and the 1000th anniversary of the coronation of the Polish King Bolesław Chrobry.

After singing the anthem, it was noted in the speeches that the revolt of Polish patriots against the Russian Empire of 22 January 1863 was an crucial mention point in the quest to regain Poland's independence. The commanders of the uprising, i.e. Stefan Bobrowski, Romuald Traugutt, Marian Langiewicz and Louis Mierosławski, were mentioned. It was noted that the owner of “Polish Gazeta” at the time, the Warsaw banker Leopold Kronenberg supported the insurgents by financing the acquisition of arms and its spread from abroad. Maciej Downar Zapolski, who is the great-grandson of Jan Nurkiewicz, spoke. In his speech he described the past of the household associated with the insurrection including the destiny of the Sibiraks, and besides presented the carab – a saber from his own collections.

After the laying of the synagogue at the monument of the Polish conspiracy and under the mound of freedom was performed “God something Poland” and “God’s Mother”. The celebrations were attended by the Nowotar branch of the Union of Scouting of the Republic.
