New regulations, which have been in force since the fresh year, introduce a fresh taxation for entrepreneurs and can increase prices in stores. The Ministry of Climate and Environment has published a regulation in the latest diary of Laws on fresh rates of charges for disposable plastic products.

Although the draft regulation has been available to the public since May 2023, the final content was only late revealed, just before the date of entry into force. This Regulation forms part of a broader effort to reduce the usage of disposable plastic by reacting to EU directives, specified as the SUP Directive, and amendments to the Business Obligations Act relating to the management of certain waste and product charges.

Rates for the usage of plastic packaging

  • 0,20 zł per cup for drinks (including lids and lids).
  • 0.25 zł for food containers, including fast food and another ready-to-eat meals, with the exception of beverage containers, plates, and packages and wrappings containing food.
  • In addition, there was besides a regulation in the authoritative diary concerning the rates of the charge for the management of plastic waste and the establishment and maintenance of public collection systems. This fee amounts to PLN 0,10 per kg of waste, including beverages cups and food containers. The rate of PLN 0.01 per part of tobacco products with filters and moisturised wipes was besides applied.

The publication of these regulations attracted quite a few interest in social media, especially Małgorzata Samborska, taxation advisor and partner at Grant Thornton, expressed peculiar interest. It has previously signaled a deficiency of regulation on this issue. There is so small time for entrepreneurs to adapt to these fresh rules.

As far as price increases are concerned, there is simply a hazard that the introduction of these charges could contribute to increases in stores, peculiarly if costs related to the production and distribution of plastic products are passed on to consumers.

Everybody pays more.

There is simply a crucial likelihood that the additional fees introduced will be reflected in consumer portfolios. Entrepreneurs, confronting the expanding operating costs associated with fresh charges for disposable plastic products, may be willing to increase the prices of their products or services. specified price adjustment may not only affect consumer purchasing decisions but besides increase public awareness of plastic waste and its environmental impact.

Ultimately, the nonsubjective of these fees is not only to make additional income, but besides to advance the search for greener substitutes for disposable plastic products. However, the effect of these changes can besides lead to innovation and improvement of more environmentally friendly solutions.
