From March 1, 2025 On Polish roads starts a new, nationwide police action. Officers announce increased controls and zero tolerance for breakers. The main nonsubjective is to destruct the most dangerous offensesthat lead to accidents. any crimes will mean an automatic mandate of PLN 500 and 12 punishment points.
What crimes will be severely punished?
The police will focus on the drivers who are most dangerous to safety. In particular, they will find:
- Overtaking on pedestrian crossings – 1 of the most dangerous maneuvers that can cost a pedestrian life. From March, drivers breaking this recipe will receive PLN 500 mandate and 12 punishment points.
- Over 50 km/h in built-in area – in addition to advanced mandate and punishment points, drivers must number on retention of a driving licence for 3 months.
- Continuing to step forward – in 2024 it was 1 of the most common offences resulting in accidents. The fresh police action is expected to change that.
- Using your telephone while driving – Although many drivers inactive underestimate this recipe, since March the police will be highly strict towards those who alternatively of on the road, focus on the smartphone screen.
- Running on a red light – 1 of the offences that police mention to as “aware violation of the law with full premeditation”. The penalties will be maximum.
More patrols, more control – police will not indulge
Police office has announced that as part of this action it will go on the roads several 100 extra patrolsincluding unmarked police cars with video recorders. In addition, in many places additional Police dronesthat will let you to registry offences in advance without the driver's knowledge.
Police say checks will be carried out at random, and their aim is not to "hunt drivers" but to improve road safety. Nevertheless, many motorists may anticipate unexpected checks and harsh parking tickets.
Could the mandates be even higher? The government is considering changing
Road safety experts already propose that penalties may not be sufficiently dissuasive. Unofficial conversations talk about increase of mandates to PLN 800-1000 for the most serious offences.
In any European countries there is system of percent mandateswhere the amount of the punishment depends on the income of the perpetrator. This model applies, among others, in Finland, where up to a fewer tens of thousands of euros can be paid for the driver's advanced speed. Will Poland go in this direction? Time will tell.
Divided drivers: safety or money hunt?
The fresh police action triggers mixed reactions. Many drivers support enhanced control of road safety, but there is no shortage of vote that this is another “a device to make money”.
Some point out that alternatively of expanding the number of patrols, focus on better road infrastructure, improving the marking of pedestrian crossings and decommissioning dangerous intersections.
On the another hand, statistic leave no illusions – in 2024 Poland happened About 20,000 road accidentsIn which they died above 1,700 people. Many of these tragedies could have been avoided if drivers followed regulations.
From March 1, 2025 The police are taking off with a fresh action, in which drivers who break regulations can anticipate advanced penalties. PLN 500 mandate and 12 punishment points For any offences, it is only the beginning – it is possible that the penalties will be even more severe in the future.
Will this action reduce the number of accidents? It'll show you time. 1 thing is certain – since March on the roads better take your ft off the gas and stick to the rules.
