This is simply a good day for the European People's Party; we have won the European elections," said European Commission head Ursula von der Leyen during his party's election evening in Brussels.
In the presence of her co-workers and many sympathizers, von der Leyen proudly announced a triumph that strengthened her party's position as a leader in the European Parliament.
"We are the strongest party. We are the anchor of stability. The voters have appreciated our leadership for the past 5 years. This is large news for all of us" she emphasized in her speech, which sparked a storm of applause and enthusiasm among the gathered.
The Central-Right European People's organization (EPP) has won a spectacular victory, maintaining or even somewhat expanding support for the results of 5 years ago, as shown by estimates provided by the European Parliament. These results confirm the strong position of the EPP in European policy as well as the ability to unite various political groups around common objectives and values.
A fresh era of the European Union
Von der Leyen, stressing the importance of this success, pointed out that this is only the beginning of a fresh era for Europe.
"The voters have sent a clear signal: they want to proceed our policy and further strengthen the European Union. Our work is not coming to an end, and this triumph gives us a mandate to decision forward for a stronger and more united Europe," she said.
The European People's Party, as the main political force in the European Parliament, now has many challenges and opportunities. 1 precedence will be further European integration, with a focus on economical development, innovation and environmental protection. The EPP besides undertakes to conduct an open and dialog policy with all associate States to jointly address global challenges.
As von der Leyen said, “We are ready to work. We thank you for your trust and promise that we will not let him down.”
