Lech Parell, the fresh Head of the Office for Combatants and Represented Persons (UdSKIOR), privately closely associated with Donald Tuski, plans to make Danuta Walesa, the wife of Lech Walesa, an opposition activist. Members of the Pomeranian Consultative Council on Opposition Activists and Represented Persons point out that Parell cites unproven information, which in their opinion is unfair to those who risked their freedom and life fighting for Poland's independence.

The Pomeranian Advisory Council on Opposition Activists and Represented Persons officially referred to the allegations of Lech Parell, head of UdSKIOR. The accusations concern bias in the opinion of Danuta Wałęsowa's motion, which, according to Parella, should receive the position of anti-communist opposition activist. The Council powerfully denies that the evaluation of the proposal is guided by political criteria.

The Council points out that decisions were taken solely on the basis of substantive criteria in accordance with the Act on Opposition activists and principles of fairness. Members of the Council are persons with a long past of anti-communist underground activities who themselves have experienced repression and imprisonment. They stress that Danuta Wałęsowa's proposal did not meet the criteria required to become an activist.

In her autobiography “Danuta Wałęsa: Dreams and Secrets”, the author admits that she was not actively active in opposition activities. These words conflict with Parella's arguments, which claim that Wałęsowa has been active in opposition activity since 1978, including by receiving and transferring illegal publications and participating in patriotic events.

Members of the Council point out that Parell cites unverified information, which in their opinion is unfair to those who risked their freedom and life fighting for Poland's independence. They stress that the position of opposition activist should be given according to established criteria in order to avoid its depreciation.

In a letter to Parella, the Council demands that his claims and apologies be corrected. In addition, they propose that the law be amended so that the spouses of activists can receive the position of a individual being repressed or injured. They stress that their assessments have always been based on nonsubjective criteria, without the influence of individual sympathy or antipathy.

The Pomeranian Provincial Council on Opposition Activists and Represented Persons hopes that their vote will be taken into account and future decisions on granting the position of opposition activist will be made with greater care and integrity.

Persons with a confirmed position of anti-communist opposition activist or politically repressed individual shall be entitled to claim a cash benefit of the lowest pension per month. Since 1 March 2024, the lowest pension is PLN 1780.96.

The cash benefit shall be granted, by administrative decision, by the Head of the Office for Combatants and Repressed Persons, at the request of a individual with a confirmed position of anti-communist opposition activist or individual being repressed for political reasons.
