How many years from now is the centre going to rise? Real in 5 or six. After all, many concepts have existed for years, and they are inactive not implemented due to the fact that “there is no money” – says Przemysław Majewski. The Councillor of the Law and Justice in the City Council of Gdańsk evaluates the competition for the creation of the confederate Centre.
A student competition is launched for the concepts of the South Centre in Gdańsk. It is an crucial step in the process of spatial planning and will have a direct impact on the further improvement of this area.
The aim of the competition is to accomplish a high-quality urban and architectural concept for the improvement of the area for the implementation of the centre in the confederate districts of Gdańsk.
– The competition will first of all let to specify the urban-architectonic concept. On the 1 hand, it will service to clarify certain provisions in the spatial planning plans, which are presently under way," says Piotr Grzelak, deputy president of Gdańsk for sustainable improvement and investment. "On the another hand, it will be a contribution to public-private partnerships. This expression will aid us execute public functions, specified as a rink or a swimming pool, and on the another hand will supply commercial service, but besides fresh jobs. This means that residents of Gdańsk South will not gotta migrate towards Wrzeszcz or Oliwa, due to the fact that all these basic services will be provided here.
The fresh centre should become the heart of the territory and connect it, thus creating a vibrant space with which residents will be happy to identify, while wanting to spend time and meet their needs.
– We are talking about a fifteen-minute town, that various services should be located as close to the inhabitants as possible," added Piotr Grzelak. “We are talking about public services due to the fact that there will be a swimming pool and ice rink in the area, but besides commercial services that we usage all day. This applies, of course, to basic services specified as grocery stores, grocery stores, but besides fitness clubs, and ultimately, possibly cinemas or various kinds of recreation.
South Centre – area
The area is located in the very centre of confederate districts of Gdańsk. Together with fresh investments, which will be designated under the fresh line of the Pomeranian Metropolitan Railway, they are to make a network of local centres and at the same time change the area of the district.
– The past of planning the center of the south is long, but in a time of pandemic it turned out that we do not necessarily work sitting in the office and do not necessarily store exclusively in large stores. So we request to come up with a fresh thought of what the centre of the south may be – says Prof. Piotr Lorens, Architect of the City of Gdańsk. – Its location and rank have been recorded in the Gdańsk improvement Strategy, which is why we started to implement.
Concept consulted with residents
It is crucial that the Centre's assumptions take into account the most up-to-date conditions and that the investment itself was developed in a modern way, in line with the requirements of future users. At the same time, it should be linked to the investments planned in the neighbourhood. Therefore, in preparation for the competition, the form of the investment was discussed with residents.
This is simply a groundbreaking moment, due to the fact that at the beginning of the year we passed improvement programmes for the city of Gdańsk by 2030 and the concept that will be created within this space already fits into these improvement programmes – she said Kamila Błaszczyk, Councillor of the civilian Coalition.
Thus we see Gdańsk: as a short distance space, a fifteen-minute town. And this competition, this space with the stops of the Pomeranian Metropolitan Railway, has a chance to become a breakthrough in the way we live, how we function in the city. The city will become closer to us, along with services we can usage more easily. This will most likely besides affect the economical sphere, allowing improvement of entities that can operate in a very close neighbourhood.
– I am very pleased that we are dealing with this strategical issue: in terms of planning the space that residents can usage and in terms of greenness, which is definitely essential in the immediate vicinity," he said. Maximilian Kieturakis, Councillor All for Gdańsk. –
Here we will open a fresh space for residents to usage services, but besides the second largest park in Gdańsk, which is created next door. I hope that the concept will be developed in cooperation with residents. I encourage the locals to engage actively, too. Of course, as councillors, we aid to make these voices sound. I look forward to it, due to the fact that it will be a revolution in this space.
There are respective problems with planning the alleged confederate Centre in Gdańsk. First, time. Today, the alleged confederate districts of Jasien, Ujescisko, Łostowice, Orunia Górna Gdańsk The south is almost 100,000 people, 1/5 of all residents. The city takes on creating the concept of a centre where a tram depot, shops, swimming pool or ice rink is to be located, erstwhile many of the settlements have already existed for years and are faced with chronic deficiency of access to basic services. In how many years will the “centre” be built? Real 5 or 6 – believes Przemysław Majewski, Councilor for Law and Justice.
After all, many concepts have existed for years and are inactive not implemented due to the fact that “money is missing”. The second point is the concept of the centre itself. The Gdańsk authorities talk of a "15-minute town" while it can take many inhabitants of these districts almost an hr to scope it through a trafficked street and a narrow network of collective communication connections. In summary, the squad of Aleksandra Dulkiewicz likes to talk (and mamitate the inhabitants) about the creation of the concept, so it was late with the south park or fresh bike roads, while actually this concept stays on paper only for years.
Competition schedule
On Monday, May 6, a two-stage competition was announced. All those willing by Friday, May 24 should apply for admission to the competition. After that, studies can be submitted until 13 September and competitions until 8 November. Winning concepts will be selected by 15 November.
– We care about good quality concepts. In the first stage, we invitation you to submit programming-space concepts," adds Piotr Lorens. – In the second phase to item and present urban-architectonic proposals. As part of the competition, we predicted cash prizes.
Awards
The condition for participation in the competition is to show that the plan squad has at least 1 individual with architectural rights. Winners will receive cash prizes. The first place will be PLN 60,000 gross. The second and 3rd places will besides be awarded, the winners of which will receive PLN 30,000 and PLN 20,000 gross. The prize for the award will be PLN 15,000 gross.
