We're here, the ambulance is about to take you to the infirmary – the officer tries to talk in a calm voice. He's giving first aid to an injured paratrooper. Do you remember a number? Would you like us to inform someone? – the question hangs in vacuum, due to the fact that the jumper loses consciousness... Fortunately, it's just a drill, or actually a military medical and road rescue competition.
The 1st Polish Championship in Medical Rescue and Road Soldiers WP and Workers of the Military wellness Service took place in Krakow. It was organized by the 5th Military Clinical infirmary in cooperation with 6th Airborne Brigade. 24 teams from all over Poland fought in the barracks of “red berets”. They followed them and judged them. Professional lifeguards from the State Fire Department, police and civilian wellness services.
It's hard to get the full pot.
Carolina, 1 of the instructors, is approaching the script of the episode with the injured paratrooper. – As a consequence of strong wind, the jump failed, the soldier hung on a tree respective twelve centimeters above the ground. The omission of any consequence with negative points, and a full of 100 points should be earned during 1 task. “It’s hard to get the full pot,” admits Maria, sergeant from 16 Lower Silesian Territorial Defence BrigadeShe's a contestant. – This is simply a training situation, but pretenders truly moan, breathe hard, scream, struggle, do not cooperate. However, this is different from learning from books.
– In fact, it would be even worse – I notice.
– That's why we're here and being judged.
Competition mobilises to work
During shooting training, 1 of the students accidentally hurts the instructor. A frightened man is fleeing the unit. Damaged with massive hemorrhaging from the lower limb and with an open chest wound is unconscious – this is the script of the next episode.

– Oh, yes. Private Wioletta, a Red Boron battleship, nods her head. For us, it's something new, the first time we've always been to a competition like this. We are judged and taught by people more experienced than we are. In addition, we work with pretenders, not on phantoms, so there are many reasons for stress.
– Would you like to win?
– Who wouldn't? – the officer smiles widely. – But the most crucial thing is that thanks to specified struggles we effort to be better and increase our chances of saving human life.
Be prepared
And it's not just the lives of soldiers. The championship program was designed in specified a way that participants faced not only challenges concerning their regular service. 1 of the tasks is to aid a kid get hit. To make it difficult, rescuers first become participants in a car accident. A rolling simulator shall be utilized for this purpose. “A fewer times, goating can beat out of rhythm, confuse,” says the paramedic, the judge. – The kid was found without guardians, unconscious – introduces me to the details of the event, then describes the injury scenario. The level of this preparation defines the rule of eligible first aid. KPP is simply a set of activities to save a individual in an emergency wellness emergency. The expression goes beyond average first aid, covering more advanced procedures and the usage of specialised equipment. For example, orthopedic collars, valve dressings for chest wounds, resuscitators, or oropharyngeal tubes. The intent of the KPP is to stabilise the injured individual and prepare him for transport or transfer to the medical rescue team.
Defend, fight and save
At 1 of six positions I meet young Brig. Grzegorz Michalczyk, justice of the main competition. “We just went through all the points,” reports Fire Department Officer. – The stations are prepared professionally, the appearance is on a truly advanced level.
– You can see the large commitment of the starting teams – adds Colonel Krzysztof Ciupek from the 5th Military Clinical Hospital. We have representations of all types of armed forces here. Tankers, logistics, military firemen. I'm truly curious which squad will be victorious.
A fewer hours later, it's clear. Among military medical institutions the 3rd place is the 2nd Military Field Hospital, the second 5 Military Clinical infirmary with Polyclinic, 1st Military Field Hospital. The overall ranking is ranked 3rd by a crew from the 16th Airborne Battalion, the second rescue squad from the 8th Transport Air Base, and the winners are credited to paratroopers from 18 of the Bielsko Airborne Battalion.
– These soldiers can not only fight but besides save – says Colonel Krzysztof Ciupek.
