In Belgium, which was very Catholic half a century ago, the number of believers fell dramatically. But now more adults are getting baptized – this year there will be twice as many as last year.
As many as 362 Belgian adults are planning to be baptized this year – this is almost twice as last year. Most – due to the fact that as many as 121 catechumens – have the Diocese of Mechelen-Brussels, of which 75 will accept the sacrament in Brussels itself. 107 adults are besides preparing for baptism in the Diocese of Tournai.
In Belgium, as in another countries, the preparation of adults for baptism takes place all year long, and the adoption of the sacrament usually takes place on Passover Eve.
Catholics now represent 44% of Belgian society, but only 8.9% go to church at least erstwhile a month.
